Location: Werribee based

About the role

As the Consents and Permits Lead within our Roads and Maintenance department, you will manage a team of three direct reports in delivering high-quality, customer-focused services related to works on roads and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with the Road Management Act and other relevant legislation.

This role requires you to build and maintain strong cross-organisational and external relationships to enhance service delivery, proactively managing risk, and safeguard Council's reputation through consistent application of policies, standards, and customer service excellence.

What your day will look like

  • Managing applications for Consent for Works in Roads, ensuring compliance with the Road Management Act, Council’s Road Management Plan, and associated specifications
  • Managing applications for Building Information including the provision of property services information (legal points of discharge, storm-water points, flooding information, build over easements and Section 173 Agreements etc.)
  • Providing guidance to staff, consultants, contractors, and the community on responsibilities under relevant legislation
  • Monitoring, measuring and reporting on the status of consents and approvals against service level agreements
  • Managing Public Lighting requests including for new or additional fixtures or maintenance of existing
  • Ensuring the maintenance of non-standard streetlights

What you will bring

  • Degree or diploma qualification in civil engineering, or
  • Several years’ experience in a related field such as construction or project management, or
  • A lesser qualification with substantial relevant customer service and staff management experience in a technical environment
  • Sound knowledge and application of relevant legislation and regulations including Road Management Act and local government policies
  • Proven ability to manage, support and lead a team in a technical environment to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Demonstrated experience in managing customer service functions, including complaint resolution and conflict management
  • Ability to interpret complex technical information and legislation to make informed decisions and resolve issues within a regulatory and, ideally government environment
  • Proficient in relevant software systems and databases for permits, works management and reporting
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
