About The Role The WA Future System Engineering team leads the design and delivery of strategic engineering initiatives under the SWIS Engineering Roadmap Program. The team leads Transition Point Planning and readiness across the WA energy sector, ensuring the secure and reliable operation of the SWIS through the energy transition. By providing expert engineering advice, the team supports reform development, investment decisions and stakeholder engagement. It also identifies strategic alignment opportunities with the NEM to leverage AEMO’s engineering expertise nationally. The team plays a key role in engaging with industry, market bodies, and governments to address technical risks and challenges in the evolving energy landscape. Focused on the SWIS and WA gas sector, you will be responsible for leading strategic engineering initiatives that support AEMO's ability to maintain power system security and reliability while enabling the industry to transition to an affordable and sustainable energy future. What You Will Be Doing
- Provide technical leadership of delivery of system design and transformation initiatives under the SWIS Engineering Roadmap Program and work collaboratively to coordinate and optimise delivery with other related engineering initiatives across AEMO and industry.
- Provide engineering expertise to support reform development and implementation, by ensuring that new policy, regulatory and market mechanisms consider technical and power system engineering requirements. This includes the delivery of projects and initiatives that help proponents value the service contributions from their assets, and early works for transition points, ready for handover to AEMO Operations.
- Present AEMO’s latest technical understanding from the SWIS Engineering Roadmap to participants, market bodies, governments and a wider non-technical audience.
- Informally lead one to two subject matter experts.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Strong understanding of the operation and planning of large power systems, and the engineering challenges that need to be addressed as the SWIS transitions.
- Demonstrated experience making innovation and change happen, thinking strategically about the requirements of the future, being comfortable with ambiguity and driving outcomes in the face of resistance.
- Demonstrated analytical skills sufficient to review, critique and approve the modelled outcomes that underpin key messages to stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a variety of stakeholders with conflicting interests, negotiating agreed outcomes, and delivering these on time and to budget. This experience will include facilitating industry working groups and negotiating the resolution of complex issues across stakeholders with competing objectives and a variety of commercial and reputational drivers.
