Shellharbour NSW, New South Wales Full-time Description We have an exciting new opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join the Statutory Planning and Certification Business Unit to play a crucial role in delivering efficient public and environmental health services as mandated by relevant legislation. This position entails routine inspections of food premises, commercial businesses and various health-related facilities, ensuring compliance with established standards while championing a customer-focused approach to enhance community health outcomes. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will be responsible for investigating complaints, assessing development applications and implementing health programs that align with environmental policies. Your expertise will not only support regulatory compliance but also contribute to the development of Council Codes and Policies that promote public health. We are looking for someone who can join us on a journey of success and be part of an energetic and positive team culture. About You Our ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in environmental health or science, along with a working knowledge of relevant legislation. A proactive problem solver with excellent communication skills, capable of fostering positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Degree (or nearing completion) in Environmental Health/Science or a related field.
  • Experience inspecting public health premises and investigating environmental complaints.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of adapting to new software applications.

Your ability to interpret legislative requirements and apply them in practice will be key to your success in this role. A current Class C Driver’s License is required, and training or knowledge in Onsite Sewage Management Systems is desirable but not essential.
