The position of the Multicultural Mental Health Coordinator applies advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning and coordination skills to provide strategic leadership, education and consultation to enhance cultural capability in the delivery of recovery-oriented care for infants, children and young people, and their support networks; and leads the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships with relevant stakeholders to optimise service integration to meet the complex needs of this cohort. About The Team The Integrated Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) provides complex secondary and tertiary level health care. CYMHS offers specialised mental health services for families with infants, children and young people (birth to 18 years) who experience severe and complex mental health problems, and where their needs cannot be met by other services. About The Role

  • Clinically supporting the engagement, assessment, recovery planning and care of consumers from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds through a consultation and liaison role with clinicians within the service; and
  • Monitor and report on clinical practices and outcomes within clinical service area and actively participate in initiating, developing and implementing quality and service improvement activities that enhance the delivery of mental health services to people from CALD
  • Facilitating access to specialist services and resources through the Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre and local multicultural services and programs
  • Lead the development and implementation of plans, policies and procedures for the delivery of culturally responsive mental health care consistent with state and national policies and standards to support the continuum of care for CALD consumers and build CHQ CYMHS capacity to respond to the mental health needs of people from CALD
  • Facilitate access to relevant training and development in relation to available resources and cross-cultural practice issues in working with consumers from CALD backgrounds, and contribute towards clinical research activities within the service area with reference to CALD populations and mental health
  • Lead the provision of expert advice to CHQ CYMHS executive on issues relating to the developments in national and state policies affecting people from CALD backgrounds and the implications for planning, evaluation and delivery of culturally sensitive and appropriate mental health services
  • Liaise with CHQ CYMHS and other relevant Queensland Health staff regarding their needs to provide culturally appropriate mental health services
  • Collaborate with QTMHC in the development of strategic transcultural practice with young people to ensure alignment with the statewide multicultural mental health program
  • Facilitate networks with local multicultural groups and collaboratively develop strategies to monitor unmet mental health needs and facilitate equitable CALD access to services
