The City of Gold Coast is seeking an experienced Building Compliance Leader to join our team on a permanent full-time basis! About The Team Building Compliance is responsible for ensuring that any building works and prescribed tidal works across the City are safe and compliant with relevant legislation and approvals. Our unit investigates customer requests, undertakes compliance inspections related to sale of properties, residential services inspections and compliance notices, including the reinspection safety program of awnings built over public land. There are 9 culturally diverse team members who work collaboratively with other compliance teams within the City Inspectorate. We aim at delivering a safe and liveable city, whilst maintaining excellent customer service. How we regulate matters to us and our customers. About The Role This position is responsible for leading and managing a team of Building Compliance Officers, including providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring of team members. This position also provides advice to stakeholders and reports directly to the Coordinator Building Compliance. This is a fast-paced position with competing demands and requires the successful applicant to have experience in leading people, as well as enforcement and building compliance. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to make a difference. You’ll not only ensure adherence to legislation and internal processes but also be a key player in fostering trust and confidence within our community. Key Deliverables
- Providing strong leadership and management to team members, whilst maintaining a psychological safe environment.
- Allocating, coordinating and overseeing the investigation of customer requests in relation to building works and prescribed tidal works, including breaches of the Local Government Act 2009, Planning Act 2016, Building Act 1975, Building Code of Australia, Queensland Development Code, Local Law 17 and the City Plan.
- Making decisions based on risk, legislation, evidence, and expertise to determine appropriate actions with regard to building compliance matters.
- Preparing and reviewing legal documents, reports, and correspondence to a professional standard.
- Providing advice and support to the Coordinator Building Compliance and management.
We’re Looking For People Who Have
- Bachelor Degree of Building Surveying or equivalent knowledge
- Experience in leadership, enforcement and building compliance.
- Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Compliance) or the equivalent knowledge
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or the equivalent knowledge
- DESIRED - Certificate IV in Leadership and Management or the equivalent knowledge
- Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted
- Construction General Induction White Card
