Technical Co‑Founder / Founding Engineer (Path to CTO) – Curalysis
About Curalysis
Curalysis is a patient‑first health data platform where patients log their daily symptoms, seizures, medications, and other health events in an app that feels simple, engaging, and lightly gamified while still capturing research‑grade data underneath. Organisations such as clinics, charities, and research groups give Curalysis to their patients so a single patient workflow powers both their own self‑management and high‑quality longitudinal datasets for care and research.
Curalysis is being built by founders personally affected by these conditions: epilepsy and motor neurone disease are part of our own stories and our “why.” This isn’t a generic SaaS play; the long‑term goal is to help find better treatments and, ultimately, cures by generating the kind of real‑world, longitudinal data that researchers and clinicians need but don’t have today. Joining as technical co‑founder means your work directly contributes to improving and potentially saving millions of lives, not just shipping another app.
In the near term, organisations will access aggregated, de‑identified data through an organisation dashboard, and researchers will receive structured exports (for example, CSV files) they can plug into their analysis workflows. Over time, we’ll add dedicated dashboards for clinicians, organisations, and researchers on top of the same shared data layer, so patients, care teams, and research teams can all benefit from the same accurate longitudinal record instead of siloed tools.
There are currently two founding members (product/clinical/go‑to‑market). This role is for the third, technical co‑founder with a clear path to CTO.
The role
This is a true co‑founder role for a technical partner who wants to own and grow the product, not just “build what they’re told.” You will be the primary technical owner from day one, with a defined path to becoming CTO as we scale.
You’re joining at the “MVP built + early partners engaged” stage: the core product exists, early clinical/research relationships are in motion, and the main challenge is hardening, iterating, and getting to repeatable paid usage.
What you’ll do
- Lead development on our modern web stack (TypeScript/React/Supabase/Postgres or similar), including authentication, security, performance, and integrations.
- Turn clinician, patient, and researcher needs into product: daily logging flows, analytics views, cohort dashboards, and research‑ready exports.
- Own the technical roadmap from “MVP + pilots” to “robust, secure, multi‑tenant product,” including testing, monitoring, and data quality.
- Work closely with the founding CEO and partners to run experiments, ship fast, and refine what we’re building based on real‑world use.
- Lay the foundations for a future engineering team: coding standards, architecture decisions, security/compliance practices, and eventual hiring.
Equity and structure
- You’ll join as the third co‑founder alongside two existing founders (so not a 50/50 split, but meaningful ownership from day one).
- Equity for this role ranges from 10–30% fully diluted, with standard 4‑year vesting and a 1‑year cliff for all founders.
As a guide:
- Around 10% suits someone who has other commitments but can reliably contribute at least 20–30 hours per week over the next 6–12 months.
- Towards the upper end, up to 30% is reserved for a highly experienced, founding‑level CTO who is “all in” alongside the existing founders and prepared to make this their primary focus as funding and revenue ramp.
Exact equity will be agreed based on your seniority, responsibilities, and time commitment, and documented clearly in a co‑founder agreement.
What you look like
- Senior full‑stack or strong backend engineer with real experience shipping production systems on modern web stacks (TypeScript/React/Postgres/Supabase or equivalent).
- Comfortable with data‑heavy products: designing schemas, thinking about data quality, and building APIs/exports that others rely on.
- Interested in healthcare, neurology or complex chronic conditions, or using data to improve patient outcomes—and energised by the fact that the founding team’s lived experience with epilepsy and MND is central to the mission.
- Motivated by mission as much as upside: you want your engineering work to help improve and ultimately save lives, not just optimise ad clicks or build another generic productivity tool.
- Able to commit at least 20 hours per week initially (ideally 20–30), with the potential to move toward full‑time as the company secures funding and revenue.
- Looking for a long‑term co‑founder role, not a short consulting engagement; transparent and direct in how you communicate and collaborate.
How we’ll work together
- Equity‑only initially (no salary) until we close pre‑seed funding and/or paid research contracts, then transition to a blend of salary plus equity where appropriate.
- Remote‑friendly with flexible hours; overlap with AEST is ideal but not strictly required for the right person.
- Clear expectations on contribution (time and responsibilities), checked in on regularly so equity and reality stay aligned.
- A straightforward, founder‑level agreement that sets out responsibilities, vesting, and a path to CTO.
How to apply
Send a short note to [your email / link] with:
- A few lines about you, why this space interests you, and what excites you about Curalysis.
- Your relevant experience (links to GitHub, portfolio, or shipped products).
- Your realistic availability over the next 6–12 months (hours per week) and when you could start.
Shortlisted candidates will have an initial conversation to align on vision, equity/time expectations, and working style, followed by a small, scoped trial project before finalising co‑founder terms.
