Ecommerce bookkeeping manager
Job Description
Posted on: June 22, 2026
We run the books for Aussie ecommerce brands running through Shopify and Xero. We're looking for someone to own the bookkeeping function and take it to the next level.
About Day One Advisory
We're a Melbourne based accounting and advisory firm built around ecommerce. We take a hands-on, relationship-focused approach, investing the time to understand what each client is actually trying to do as they scale. Our work goes beyond tax and compliance into ongoing strategic support throughout the year. We're in it as a long-term partner in our clients' success, and we back that up with a strong delivery team and a genuine interest in seeing clients hit their own definition of winning.
Our vision is simple. We want to be the go-to outsourced finance team for Aussie ecommerce brands. This role is central to building that.
What you'll actually do
This is a management role. Your job is the team, not the data entry. You'll lead three direct reports, with admin assistance behind you, help them hit their KPIs, and lift performance by improving processes and training rather than just doing the work yourself.
Day to day that means:
- Reviewing the team's output and being the person who catches what others miss
- Making sure reconciliations are clean and reports go out right and on time
- Delivering client reports and handling client queries, explaining what the numbers actually mean
- Working directly with the director to streamline systems and lift the quality of the whole client experience
The better you are at turning a messy process into a repeatable one, the more impact you'll have here.
What we need from you
Two things are mandatory:
- Public practice experience running bookkeeping across multiple clients at once. Without it, this isn't the role for you.
- BAS and GST exposure in an Australian context. You need to be confident with Australian compliance, not learning it on the job.
On top of that:
- Deep Xero knowledge, not just familiarity
- Real comfort with ecommerce data flows like Shopify, Stripe and PayPal, including clearing accounts and inventory
- Strong analytical skills, so you can interpret financial data, spot trends and troubleshoot discrepancies rather than just record them
- Excellent communication, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-technical clients and build trust
- Strong attention to detail and the organisation to manage deadlines and KPIs across a team and a portfolio
Experience building or improving processes rather than just following them is exactly what we're after. And if you've got the ability to give clients real advice, not just report the numbers, even better.
What we offer
Work where you do your best work. We're based in Frankston now, with a new Moorabbin office opening soon. You can work from either office, from home, or fully remote for the right person.
The rest of what you get:
- A real training and growth, because we want you better at this than you were last year
- Performance bonuses tied to results you can actually influence
- Extra days off for your birthday and Melbourne Cup Monday
- An extra week of paid leave over Christmas when we hit our lodgement target
Why Day One
We use good tools, we automate the boring parts, and we care about getting things right rather than just getting them done. You'll have real ownership of your function and a direct line to the person running the firm.
