Pacific Labour Operations Division Overview The Pacific Labour Operations Division is responsible for managing and implementing the PALM scheme which has two key objectives:
- To contribute to the economic development of nine Pacific Island countries (Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu) and Timor-Leste; and
- To assist Australian employers to meet labour needs in rural and regional Australia, subject to local labour market testing to enable Australian job seekers first opportunity for the job.
The department manages the PALM scheme domestic operations, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Department of Home Affairs and the Fair Work Ombudsman. The Division operates in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a requirement for ongoing stakeholder engagement. Information about the PALM scheme is available at: https://www.palmscheme.gov.au. The Role The Pacific Labour Operations Division is seeking motivated individuals who demonstrate foundational skills, a commitment to learning and development and who are experienced in providing operational oversight, quality and assurance and stakeholder engagement at the APS 4 level. This pool will provide a valuable resource for filling vacancies within the Pacific Labour Operations Division over the next 12 months. During this time, the pool may be retained for internal use and may not be released to external agencies, ensuring opportunities remain aligned with the Division’s workforce needs. Duties And Responsibilities Responsibilities of the APS Level 4 may include:
- Working within a team environment to effectively deliver on work outcomes.
- Displaying sound organisation skills to manage competing priorities in a dynamic and reactive environment,
- Working in a range of cultural environments to communicate sensitively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds (e.g. the ability to communicate with nationals from PALM participating countries would be desirable),
- Liaising with employers, workers, and other stakeholders and responding to both verbal and written enquiries, received via customer call lines and/or mailboxes.
- Supporting research and analysis on routine matters,
- Adhering to established procedures, processes, and internal controls,
- Providing administrative support within a team environment.
Qualifications and Education
- Worker support - Qualifications (or demonstrated relevant experience) in social work, human services, psychology, community development, or a similar field
- Data Management- Tertiary degree or equivalent work experience in quantitative fields such as statistics, economics, maths, data science, and data analytics
