An exciting temporary opportunity exists for an experienced communication leader to join Network Services and Operations, part of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, as Manager (Communication). In this role, you will lead a professional team to plan and deliver strategic communication and community engagement activities that support public transport initiatives across Queensland. You will provide high-level advice to senior leaders, manage complex and sensitive communication issues, and help position the Translink network brand through effective strategies, campaigns and stakeholder engagement. This role will suit a collaborative, outcomes-focused professional with strong external communication experience, proven team leadership skills, and the ability to respond confidently to emerging issues, incidents and reputational risks.

Are you an experienced communication leader ready to shape how Queenslanders connect with public transport? Network Services and Operations is seeking a Manager (Communications) to lead a team of professionals delivering strategic communication and community engagement activities for public transport initiatives across Queensland.

This influential role contributes to the positioning of the Translink network brand and provides high-level strategic communication advice to Directors, Executive Directors, the Deputy Director-General and other senior officers on public transport matters, reputational risks, stakeholder impacts and emerging issues.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead the strategic direction, governance and delivery of communication functions that support government priorities, organisational objectives and public transport initiatives across Queensland.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate communication strategies, plans and campaigns that inform, engage and influence customers, stakeholders and the community.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice to executives on communications strategy, reputational risks, stakeholder impacts, emerging issues and customer engagement.
  • Lead complex, high-profile and sensitive communication initiatives, including incident and crisis communications.
  • Participate in the communications on-call roster and lead strategic communication responses to incidents, disruptions and emerging issues as required.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across government, industry, service providers and the community to support organisational outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team through effective people management, capability development, workforce planning and a safe, inclusive and accountable workplace culture.
  • Manage business planning, budgets, governance, risk and performance reporting to ensure efficient delivery of team and organisational objectives.

To thrive in this role, you will bring a degree in marketing, communications or a similar field, an IAP2 Public Participation certificate, at least seven years of external communications experience, and demonstrated experience leading, mentoring and managing communications professionals.
