Financial Controller - Renewable Energy
Job Description
Posted on: March 11, 2026
Financial Controller – Utility-Scale RenewablesLeading Renewable Energy Platform | Sydney, NSW | Permanent, Full-timeAbout the Role
A rapidly expanding renewable energy platform is seeking a Financial Controller to join its growing Australian team. The business operates a national portfolio of large-scale wind, solar, and long-duration storage assets spanning construction and operational phases.
This role sits at the heart of that growth. You'll take ownership of financial control across operational and construction-phase assets – working closely with asset managers, commercial teams, lenders, and offshore group finance to ensure rigorous reporting, strong controls, and commercially sharp insights.
Day-to-day transactional accounting is handled externally. This role is about owning the numbers, understanding what sits behind them, and translating financial performance into clear analysis for decision-makers. The ideal candidate bridges accounting rigour and commercial instinct – curious about how a wind farm or battery storage asset actually makes money, and comfortable holding their own with a project engineer and a lender in the same conversation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Forecasting
- Prepare and own monthly financials, P&L, cash flow, and CAPEX reporting across a portfolio of project SPVs in construction and operations
- Build and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and liquidity analysis for senior leadership
- Lead annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasts, grounded in real operational drivers
- Deliver accurate inputs to an offshore group consolidation team
Construction-Phase Financial Control
- Track construction cost forecasts and monitor actuals vs budget for assets transitioning from construction into operations – this is a meaningful distinction from development controlling
- Manage equity calls, debt drawdowns, and lender reporting obligations through construction milestones
- Understand the full capital structure of the projects you own, not just the accounting
Lender Compliance & Governance
- Prepare lender information packs, covenant compliance certificates, and debt reporting deliverables
- Support statutory accounts and audit processes
- Maintain strong internal controls across invoicing, intercompany, receivables, and fixed assets
Energy Market & Revenue Reporting
- Reconcile and report on electricity market revenues across spot, hedged, and contracted income streams
- Oversee LGC/STC settlement processes and related reporting obligations
- Provide variance analysis between generation, dispatch, and financial outcomes
Commercial Insights & Stakeholder Engagement
- Translate financial data into clear, useful analysis for board packs, investor updates, and management reporting
- Engage directly with asset managers, engineering, and market operations teams to understand the drivers behind the numbers
- Work with external advisors, auditors, and financing partners
What We're Looking For
Required
- CA/CPA qualified or near completion; degree in accounting, finance, or economics
- 3–7 years in financial control, project finance, or similar – renewable energy or infrastructure experience strongly preferred
- Direct experience across construction-phase and/or operational assets (not just development)
- Solid understanding of project finance structures: debt facilities, lender reporting, covenant compliance, drawdowns
- Strong Excel and financial modelling capability
- Analytically sharp, commercially curious, and able to communicate what the numbers mean in plain language
- Proactive and autonomous – comfortable in a lean, fast-moving environment where processes are still being built
Preferred
- Background at an IPP or asset owner/operator in the Australian energy market
- Familiarity with NEM settlements, electricity market revenues, and LGC/STC reconciliation
- Exposure to multi-entity consolidation within a global group structure
Culture & Environment
This is a high-quality operator in a high-growth phase. The team values people who roll up their sleeves, take ownership without being asked twice, and care about getting things right consistently. If you thrive on precision, take pride in your work, and want to grow across the full lifecycle of renewable energy assets, this is the role.
The role is based in Sydney. Regular in-office presence is expected.
Why This Role
- End-to-end lifecycle exposure across construction and operational assets
- Real project finance and lender compliance experience, not just reporting
- A team that is building something – significant room to grow as the platform scales
- Competitive base salary, superannuation, and performance incentive
