Title: Geology Manager – Corporate Development
Work Location: Perth Office - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday – Ad hoc International travel required
Fortescue is seeking an experienced geologist to join its Metals Corporate Development team, supporting the identification, assessment and acquisition of copper and other critical metals projects globally. This is a highly strategic role for a technically strong, commercially minded geologist with deep expertise in copper porphyry systems, working closely with Global Exploration teams to assess early-stage discovery opportunities at the intersection of geology, strategy and investment decision-making, with direct exposure to senior leadership.
As Geology Manager – Corporate Development, you will lead geological evaluations across the full project value chain, applying expert judgement to assess system quality, scale potential and discovery upside, and supporting technical due diligence for acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic investments. Reporting to the GM Corporate Development with a dotted line to the Director of Exploration, the role is closely integrated with global exploration teams—particularly LATAM—and involves regular engagement with junior and mid-tier mining executives, industry conferences, and external networks to proactively originate and evaluate opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, screen and technically assess copper opportunities globally, with a strong focus on early-stage and study stage emerging projects
- Apply strong geological judgement to assess system quality, scale potential, discovery upside and development optionality
- Lead and contribute to technical due diligence for acquisitions, investments and partnerships
- Act as a technical bridge between Corporate Development and Fortescue’s global Exploration teams, ensuring alignment on opportunity quality and technical standards
- Engage directly with management teams, boards and technical leaders of external companies to assess opportunities and build long-term relationships
- Provide clear, concise and defensible technical input to support investment and strategic decision-making
- Build and maintain a strong external network across the mining industry, including explorers, developers, advisors and peers
- Represent Fortescue at conferences, site visits and industry forums.
Qualifications & Experience:
- University degree in Geology (essential)
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the resources sector, with substantial exposure to copper porphyry systems and exploration-stage project assessment
- Track record of applying geological judgement to identify quality opportunities and differentiate high-potential projects from lower-quality assets
- Demonstrated experience evaluating exploration and development projects, ideally within a corporate development, investments or technical advisory context
- Strong understanding of early-stage geology, discovery risk and value creation across the exploration lifecycle
- Commercially astute, with the ability to translate technical insight into investment and strategic outcomes
- Highly credible communicator with the confidence to engage with senior executives, boards and technical leaders
- Self-directed, resilient and comfortable operating with ambiguity in fast-moving, high-stakes environments
- Genuine passion for geology, mining and building long-term value through disciplined growth
- Spanish language proficiency would be highly regarded.
