Landfill Machinery Operator We are looking for an experienced Landfill Machinery Operator to join our team at the Jackson Street Waste Management Centre. You will play a key role in the operational and administrative activities of the site, ensuring waste management processes are carried out safely, effectively and in line with regulatory requirements. About The Role As a Landfill Machinery Operator, you will support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the Jackson Street Waste Management Centre. The role focuses on effective machinery operation, sound material‑handling practices and maintaining high operational standards across the landfill, recycling and hazardous waste facilities. In this role you will:
- Operate a range of landfill machinery to support daily site operations and ensure best‑practice waste disposal and minimisation.
- Manage supply and yard activities associated with civil construction materials and the recovery facility, including the safe storage, retrieval and movement of materials such as gravel, concrete and road millings.
- Complete documentation for material deliveries, work orders and associated tasks accurately and within required timeframes.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly landfill environment, including litter control as required.
- Support the operation of the recycling drop‑off facility and household hazardous waste facility when needed.
- Ensure landfill activities comply with environmental standards, regulatory obligations and Council requirements.
- Undertake other duties relevant to the operation, management and continuous improvement of the site as directed by the Manager, Program Coordinator or their delegate.
- The role may involve weekend work as required.
What You’ll Bring To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated competency or certification in operating heavy plant and equipment—such as excavators, compactors, dozers, tip trucks and trailers—within a landfill, supply yard or similar operational environment.
- A broad understanding of recycling, recovery, supply yard and landfill operations, including safe and efficient material‑handling practices.
- Well‑developed knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements and the ability to apply safe work practices in a high‑risk environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors and members of the public.
- A commitment to delivering high‑quality customer service in a frontline operational setting.
You Will Also Hold
- A current driver’s licence
- HR licence and relevant plant operator certifications
- A White Card
Position Details
- Full-Time, 76 hours fortnight.
- Annual salary: $72,450.00 per annum
