Hays are proud to be exclusively partnering with the Sypkes Family Office (SFO) in their search for an outstanding team player and a leader to fill the role of Financial Controller on a permanent full time basis. SFO have been building and investing in businesses and properties for over 60 years, including the iconic Purity Supermarket and Chickenfeed Bargain Stores. SFO's investments fuel their passion for supporting projects that change the lives of people through their philanthropy and social impact, granting to local and international organisations. With a head office based in Hobart, they are seeking a Financial Controller who shares the family's passion for business, investment and charity.
Your new role
Due to continued growth, a new Financial Controller position has been created on a permanent full time basis. Reporting to the CFO and leading an experienced finance team, you will be hands on and tax driven. You will enjoy problem solving and work on complex business transactions. Your daily functions will include:
- Lead daily and period end finance operations through strong processes and empowered teams
- Support company and trust secretary duties and broader administration
- Manage tax accounting, strategy, compliance and record keeping
- Drive process improvement, documentation, automation, simplification and Ai use
- Prepare and enhance cash flow forecasts, reports, analysis and decision tools
- Strengthen internal controls, financial and system security and disaster recovery
- Champion simplification and standardisation across the Group
- Operate effectively in a Group subject to significant oversight from ATO, ASIC, ACNC and other regulators
- Provide strategy, advice and decisions aligned with the SFO Mission, Pillars and Ethos
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, commercial and tax acumen and regulatory responsiveness while working closely with all teams
What you'll need to succeed
You will be CA or CPA qualified and have significant experience within a reputable Chartered Accounting firm and/or large complex group. You will be a proven leader who enjoys working with complex accounting, tax and trust concepts. You will have strong tax, accounting, trust and structuring knowledge, be energised by solving complex problems and have an engaging and supportive leadership style that brings out the best in a stable team. You will be committed to delivering efficiency gains and ensuring processes remain best practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax technical strong leader to join a values based organisation.
