Lead the Finance Function and Make a Lasting Impact
Are you ready to take ownership of Council's financial direction and lead a small, high-performing team? This full-time permanent role offers an attractive salary range of $95,000-$110,000 + super (Level 6-7), providing the opportunity to shape strategic and operational outcomes within a collaborative and community-focused organisation.
About the Role
As the Finance Program Leader, you'll manage all aspects of Council's financial operations from preparing budgets and annual financial reports to working closely with auditors and driving continuous improvement across financial processes.
You'll oversee a small team of three and act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team and Council Members, ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and compliance with statutory obligations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and managing Council's annual financial statements, long-term financial, and strategic plans
- Leading budgeting processes and financial reporting
- Ensuring compliance with the Local Government Act and accounting standards
- Providing sound financial advice to senior stakeholders
- Supporting audits and maintaining data accuracy across all reporting systems
- Managing and mentoring your team to deliver results
About You
You'll bring a strong background in financial management, including experience preparing budgets, liaising with auditors, and producing annual financial reports.
You'll also be a people-focused leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, capable of building positive relationships both within your team and across the organisation.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CPA/CA desirable)
- Previous experience in local government or knowledge of rates processes (advantageous but not essential)
- Strong analytical ability and attention to detail
- A collaborative and proactive approach to leadership
