Job Description

Posted on: September 11, 2025

Are you a hands-on Project Engineer with a chemical engineering background, ready to make a tangible impact in the civil and environmental sectors? McMahon Services, a leading privately-owned Australian company in construction, industrial, and environmental services, is seeking a talented Site Engineer to join our growing team. You will have a strong focus on Water Treatment and Groundwater Remediation projects, including our landmark work on the former Rum Jungle Uranium Mine.

About McMahon Services

At McMahon Services, we are committed to delivering excellence across Australia and New Zealand. We pride ourselves on our family-business values, fostering innovation, and providing clear pathways for professional growth. Join us and contribute to vital infrastructure projects that shape our regions and communities, including one of Australia's most significant environmental remediation projects: the rehabilitation of the former Rum Jungle Uranium Mine.

About the Role

As a Project Engineer, you will be instrumental in the engineering, construction, and technical delivery of diverse civil, infrastructure, and environmental projects. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring project quality, managing risks, coordinating resources, and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.

Your expertise with pumps, pipes, and water treatment systems will be critical in managing on-site technical challenges and ensuring the smooth operation of our projects. You will be on the front lines of projects like the Rum Jungle rehabilitation, where you will apply industry-leading methods to halt acid drainage, isolate radiological hazards, and reconstruct stable landforms to ensure long-term environmental sustainability. This important work will facilitate the return of the land to its Traditional Owners, the Kungarakan and Warai peoples.

What You Will Do

  • Support Project Managers in delegated aspects of civil, infrastructure, and environmental projects.
  • Ensure project quality requirements are met and company processes are followed.
  • Assist with procurement, contract administration, and financial tracking.
  • Prepare technical RFIs and liaise with design consultancies.
  • Implement safe systems of work, manage risks, and ensure compliance.

What You Will Bring

  • A recognised Engineering Degree or relevant tertiary qualification, with a strong preference for Chemical Engineering.
  • 2-3 years' engineering experience in civil/infrastructure project delivery, ideally in water.
  • Hands-on experience working with pumps, pipes, and water treatment systems (coagulation/flocculation, multi-media filtration, membrane treatment, granular activated carbon, ion exchange treatment and chemical dosing).
  • Experience in contracts administration, procurement, scheduling, and cost tracking.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project) and ERP/PM platforms (e.g., InEight).
  • A current White Card, driver's license, and ability to obtain security clearances.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and mature judgment.
  • A strong safety focus and knowledge of HSE legislation.
  • Exceptional communication and numeracy skills.
  • Proven ability to be a flexible, adaptable, and motivated team player.
  • A big-picture mindset with a drive for innovation and continuous improvement.

Why Join McMahon Services?

We offer a supportive, high-performance environment where your skills are valued, and your contributions are recognised. You'll enjoy:

  • Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and clear career growth opportunities.
  • Employee discounts, recognition programs, and financial wellness support.
  • A strong commitment to safety and employee well-being.
  • A culture that fosters innovation and continuous improvement.
  • The chance to work on diverse and impactful projects across Australia, including one of the country's most significant environmental remediation efforts.
