About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer to join a dynamic analytics and reporting team in Sydney. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in transforming complex datasets into insightful dashboards and reports, with hands-on experience across the Microsoft BI stack.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and product teams to design analytical solutions that support key decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop interactive, visually compelling Power BI dashboards and reports
- Build data models, DAX calculations, and optimized datasets
- Work with stakeholders to gather BI/reporting requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Connect and integrate data from multiple sources including SQL Server, Azure services, APIs, Excel, and enterprise systems
- Ensure data accuracy, data validation, and performance optimization
- Manage Power BI Service including workspaces, gateways, security roles, and scheduled refreshes
- Support self‑service BI adoption across the business
- Work closely with data engineers to enhance data pipelines and ETL processes
- Maintain documentation, standards, and best practices for BI projects
Required Skills & Experience
- 3–6 years of experience as a Power BI Developer or similar BI role
- Strong proficiency with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and DAX
- Experience building complex data models, relationships, and calculated measures
- Advanced SQL skills (T‑SQL preferred)
- Experience with Azure data stack (Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Lake, Data Factory) is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts (Star schema, ETL, fact/dimension tables)
- Ability to work with large datasets and optimise report performance
- Excellent communication skills with ability to work directly with business stakeholders
- Strong problem‑solving mindset and attention to detail
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Python, R, or other analytics tools
- Familiarity with Power Apps or Power Automate
- Experience with SSIS, SSAS (Tabular), SSRS
- Knowledge of data governance and security practices
- Exposure to financial, retail, or enterprise reporting environments
