The Role
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Tax Accountant to join our growing Darwin-based team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with a diverse range of clients across taxation, bookkeeping, payroll, and business advisory services.
The successful candidate will play an important role in assisting with tax compliance, financial reporting, bookkeeping, and client communication for individuals and business entities including companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of financial statements for various business entities.
- Preparation of individual, company, trust, and partnership tax returns using HandiTax.
- Preparation and lodgement of BAS, IAS, and STP reports.
- Payroll processing and bookkeeping using Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks.
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Performing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate accounting records.
- Assisting with Excel-based financial reports and analysis.
- Liaising with the ATO through the Tax Agent Portal.
- Communicating professionally with clients after initial training.
- Assisting with general office and administrative duties when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
Skills & Experience Required
- 1–3 years’ experience in tax, bookkeeping, payroll, or accounting roles.
- Experience using Xero, MYOB, HandiTax, and QuickBooks.
- Strong understanding of BAS, IAS, STP, payroll, bank reconciliations, and accounts management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Must be available to work from our Darwin office (remote work is not available).
