Orbit2Orbit Pty LtdFull Time | Coomera, Gold Coast, QLDOrbit2Orbit is developing spacecraft and supporting technologies for in-orbit logistics. Our work sits at the intersection of aerospace engineering, electrical and electronic systems, software, communications, and mission operations. We are seeking an Electronic Engineer Level 1 to join our engineering team. This is an early-career role suited to a motivated graduate or junior engineer who has strong practical electronics capability, a hands-on engineering mindset, and a genuine interest in spacecraft and advanced engineering systems. This is not a purely theoretical or desk-based role. The successful candidate will contribute directly to the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, assembly, integration, and documentation of real spacecraft and supporting electronic systems. The role will involve PCB design, prototype assembly, avionics development, electronics testing, integration activities, and support across spacecraft and ground-based systems. The engineer will work closely with Orbit2Orbit’s multidisciplinary engineering team across avionics, software, systems engineering, mechanical integration, testing, and mission operations. This role is best suited to someone who is technically curious, practical, reliable, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-moving engineering environment where engineers are expected to take ownership of their work, communicate clearly, and contribute across multiple technical areas when required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Design, develop, test, and document electrical and electronic systems for spacecraft and supporting ground-based systems.
  • Develop printed circuit boards including schematic capture, component selection, simulation, PCB layout, design reviews, and preparation for manufacture.
  • Support prototype assembly, soldering, rework, bring-up, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic systems.
  • Assist with avionics development, spacecraft power systems, data acquisition systems, communication systems, and ground station electronics.
  • Perform testing and fault-finding using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analysers, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Support integration activities across electrical, software, mechanical, and systems engineering disciplines.
  • Assist with development of embedded software, automation scripts, and supporting engineering software where required.
  • Contribute to technical documentation including design notes, interface documents, test procedures, verification reports, and engineering records.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and communicate technical risks, issues, and progress clearly.
  • Work responsibly to agreed deadlines while maintaining good engineering and documentation practices.
  • Contribute positively to a respectful, collaborative, and professional team environment.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor Honours degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Approximately 1 year of practical engineering experience, which may include internships, university research, capstone projects, extracurricular engineering activities, or early-career industry experience.
  • Experience with PCB schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Practical experience designing, assembling, testing, or troubleshooting electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and bench power supplies.
  • Some experience with soldering and surface-mount electronics.
  • Basic software or scripting capability relevant to electronics, embedded systems, automation, or data handling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.

Recent graduates are encouraged to apply where they can demonstrate strong practical engineering capability beyond standard coursework.

Desired Technical Skills

Experience with several of the following is desirable:

  • PCB design and layout
  • Analog and digital circuit design
  • Power systems and power distribution

  • Aerospace or spacecraft systems
  • Robotics or autonomous systems
  • Embedded systems and avionics
  • RF or communications systems
  • Battery systems and power electronics
  • Ground station or telemetry systems
  • Design verification and engineering documentation
