Rise Above is a community-centered charity that provides financial and practical support to individuals and families undergoing cancer treatment across the Canberra and Queanbeyan-Palerang regions. Our mission is to make life a little bit easier during one of life’s biggest challenges. We want to ensure that no one faces cancer alone, by offering community connection, relief, and dignity to local people.

How our Community Vibes Coordinator contributes to our mission

Could you get excited about doing something that feels good, does good and raises hope in our community? We are looking for our first Community Vibes Coordinator to amplify Rise Above’s mission by making our events extraordinary, coordinating our team of volunteer Risers, raising awareness of cancer through real local people’s stories and helping us to raise vital funds. The role involves event organisation, social media implementation, content creation, and volunteer coordination - ensuring that every activity contributes to meaningful social impact.

Events That Build Community

·      Assist in planning and delivering fundraising and community events.

·      Coordinate logistics, suppliers, registrations, and on-day operations.

·      Capture photos and videos that showcase event impact.

Volunteer Engagement

·      Recruit, brief, support, and supervise volunteers for events.

·      Promote a positive and inclusive volunteer culture.

·      Maintain volunteer communication and rostering.

Socials With Purpose

·      Implement Rise Above’s social media strategy across Instagram and Facebook.

·      Create meaningful, story-driven content that highlights families, volunteers, and community impact.

·      Capture content at events and maintain an engaged online community.

·      Monitor engagement and use analytics to guide improvements.

Mission-Aligned Content Creation

·      Develop high-quality written and visual content that communicates hope, impact, and community support.

·      Maintain a content calendar aligned with organisational priorities.

·      Collaborate with staff to identify and share impactful stories.

Purpose-Driven Administration & Collaboration

·      Support administrative tasks for communications and events.

·      Work collaboratively to advance organisational goals.

·      Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and empathy in all interactions.

Selection Criteria·      Experience supporting or coordinating community or fundraising events.

·      Experience coordinating or working with people, ideally volunteers.

·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with sensitivity to families in hardship.

·      Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.

·      Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms (Instagram & Facebook).

·      Strong storytelling skills and ability to create compelling visual and written content.

·      Commitment to social impact and alignment with Rise Above’s mission.

·      Technical capability, including Microsoft Office and administrative systems.

·      Willingness to undertake a National Police Check and work occasional out-of-hours events.
