About the role
As the Senior Data Scientist, you will own the end-to-end delivery of the company’s new data insights platform. This is a customer-facing role where success is measured by the tangible value delivered to customers and end-users, not just technical sophistication. As such, you will work with directly with end-users, customers and executive teams, psychologists, and industry specialists to understand what questions matter.
You'll have the judgement to identify what's useful for customers and end-users, then build it, and prove it's valuable. You will be comfortable navigating constant ambiguity, building production-quality models across text, video, and audio, and ensuring your work is modular and scalable. This is a full-time, on-site position in Melbourne.
The team will rely on you to:
- Work closely with domain experts (care managers, psychologists, and specialists) to frame key questions and translate them into model-driven solutions.
- Naturally translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders, leading workshops with customers and end-users to clarify ambiguities and communicate findings clearly.
- Design and build production-quality models across diverse data types (text, audio, video) to generate actionable insights for aged care staff.
- Self-serve datasets, build necessary queries and pipelines, model the data, test efficacy, and build the visualisation layer for the output.
- Ship insights that customers find genuinely valuable, measured by whether they are actively used to improve resident outcomes.
- Build MVPs with a nose for scalability, document trade-offs, and ensure modularity to avoid technical debt.
Ideally you have:
- 5+ years of experience in shipping data science products that have been used by external users.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, capable of explaining complex technical work clearly, running workshops with end-users, and aligning diverse non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong proficiency in Python and modern software engineering practices.
- Expert knowledge of SQL and the ability to effectively query and work with both structured and unstructured data.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a new product environment, embracing ambiguity and taking initiative to define and drive valuable outcomes.
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Bonus points if you also have:
- Experience in healthcare, aged care, or working with vulnerable populations.
- A background in consulting, working across diverse customer and stakeholder landscapes.
- Experience with ethical data governance and personally identifiable information (PII).
- Full-stack development capability.
