We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Assistant Project Manager (APM) with a background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering to support the successful delivery of a complex vertical infrastructure project at RAAF Base Darwin. This is a major US-funded NAVFAC project involving new facility construction with significant MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) integration. The APM will work closely with the Project Manager and site team to manage the full life cycle of the project from planning and design reviews to procurement, delivery, commissioning, and close-out. Key Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end project delivery, including planning, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Assist in the coordination of MEP works, ensuring integration with architectural and structural components.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical input on electrical/mechanical systems and compliance with NAVFAC/Defence requirements.
  • Manage and track project documentation, including RFIs, ITPs, RFTs, QA/QC records, and technical submittals.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, and Defence representatives to ensure program alignment and issue resolution.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, including schedule tracking, milestone reporting, and risk mitigation.
  • Assist with financial management, including budget tracking, variations, and cost reporting.
  • Support compliance with all relevant Defence protocols, environmental standards, and safety procedures.
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement, internal coordination, and documentation for client reporting.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in building construction projects, with exposure to vertical infrastructure and MEP systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of project management principles, including scheduling, procurement, QA/QC, and cost control.
  • Previous experience on Defence infrastructure projects or NAVFAC frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, technical specifications, and compliance frameworks.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Familiarity with project management tools (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6).
  • Ability to work in a structured, process-driven environment with strong documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Must pass Background Check.
  • Based in Darwin or willing to relocate (relocation support available for the right candidate).
