Senior Drupal Developer (Contract)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Drupal Developer to join a high-profile digital transformation initiative with the Federal Government department. This role will support the delivery of a major Website Modernisation Program aimed at improving user experience, accessibility, performance, and scalability across critical government digital services.

You will work within a collaborative Agile environment alongside designers, testers, content specialists, and technical leads to build secure and high-performing Drupal solutions.

📍 Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid working available)

🕒 Contract Duration: ASAP – 30 June 2027

💼 Engagement Type: Contract

🔐 Security Clearance: Must have Baseline Clearance or NV1 Clearance

📅 Start Date: June 2026 preferred

Key ResponsibilitiesDrupal & PHP Development

• Design, develop, test, and deploy custom Drupal 9/10+ modules, themes, and integrations
• Build scalable, reusable, and maintainable PHP/Drupal solutions
• Configure and extend Drupal core and contributed modules
• Develop secure API integrations with third-party systems and services
• Ensure accessibility, security, and performance best practices are followed

Quality & Performance

• Participate in code reviews and follow Git-based version control workflows
• Support automated testing, debugging, and optimisation activities
• Produce and maintain technical documentation
• Troubleshoot and resolve Drupal performance issues

Agile Collaboration

• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
• Work closely with UX, product, and content teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and modern development practices

Essential Skills & Experience

✅ Strong experience with Drupal 9/10+ development and support

✅ Advanced proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Twig

✅ Experience with Drupal theming, module development, and configuration management

✅ Strong understanding of relational databases such as MySQL

✅ Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows

✅ Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

✅ Experience working within Agile delivery teams

Desirable Skills

⭐ Experience with REST APIs, OAuth, and SAML integrations

⭐ Exposure to testing frameworks such as PHPUnit, Jest, or Cypress

⭐ Understanding of web security best practices in Drupal/PHP environments

⭐ Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments

⭐ Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar Agile delivery tools

⭐ Contribution to open-source or Drupal community projects
