The Finance function plays a critical role in ensuring sound financial management, effective budget stewardship and compliance with Commonwealth financial frameworks.

About the Role The Finance Officer will support financial planning, budget management, reporting and governance activities associated with a major national project. Working within a collaborative finance team, you will provide financial analysis, contribute to budget development and reporting processes, and support senior decision-makers through accurate and timely financial advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS), estimates updates and reporting activities.
  • Contribute to New Policy Proposal (NPP) costings and financial analysis.
  • Undertake financial modelling, forecasting and budget monitoring.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for senior executives.
  • Engage with business areas to identify budget requirements and forecast expenditure.
  • Monitor financial administration processes and finance enquiries.
  • Support governance activities including Senate Estimates briefs and financial reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting practices.

  • Strong understanding of government financial frameworks, legislation, and reporting requirements
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to develop financial models and provide actionable insights
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication abilities
  • Proactive mindset with problem-solving expertise

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with CBMS or similar financial systems
  • Previous involvement in large infrastructure or public sector projects
  • Knowledge of policy costing and financial estimates

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in financial roles, ideally within government or large-scale projects
