About you and the role

We’re looking for an elite React Native Engineer who can ship beautiful, performant interfaces at scale. You set the standard for front-end craft: intuitive UX, pixel-perfect design implementation, and smooth cross-platform performance. You lead like an owner, bring technical rigour, and care deeply about the polish and quality of what you ship.

You’ll work alongside our founding engineer to bring Toffee’s vision to life. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role where you’ll help set the technical direction, shape our design system, and lay the foundation for a culture of world-class execution.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain features in our React Native mobile application for iOS and Android.
• Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineering to define solutions end-to-end and lead the technical decisions that bring them to life.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, ensuring code quality, performance, and scalability.
• Debug deep issues, optimise performance, and ensure reliability across devices and environments.
• Write clean, performant, maintainable code. Raise the bar on code quality, testing, and architecture patterns.
• Balance speed with craftsmanship - knowing when to move quickly and when to design for long-term scalability.

Requirements

• 5+ years professional experience in software engineering, with 3+ years of React Native at scale.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript, React Native internals, performance tuning, and bridging to native modules.
• Proven track record in shipping and scaling apps, with hands-on experience across the full mobile release cycle including App/Play Store submission, approval, and production monitoring.
• Hands-on with the ecosystem: state management (Redux, Recoil, MobX, or similar), REST/GraphQL APIs, push notifications, deep linking, and analytics instrumentation.
• Comfortable working with Figma and collaborating with designers to nail interactions and polish.
• Thrives in a high-trust, high-autonomy environment; proactive, resourceful, and decisive.
• End-to-end problem solver: you don’t just write code, you think about architecture, DX, CI/CD, and long-term maintainability.
