Associate Consultant – Risk, Security and Critical InfrastructureLocation: Australia (Melbourne/Sydney Preferred)Some interstate travel required

Trafalgar is a specialist advisory firm providing strategic security, risk and resilience consulting services across corporate, commercial and critical infrastructure environments. We work with executive leadership teams, asset owners and operators to strengthen governance, uplift security maturity, and ensure alignment with legislative and regulatory frameworks including SOCI and maritime security obligations.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an Associate Consultant to join our team. This role is suited to a capable practitioner with a broad security and risk background who is ready to transition into, or further develop within, a consulting environment.

The Role

The Associate Consultant will support and lead components of security and risk advisory engagements across a diverse client base. The successful candidate will contribute to protective security reviews, risk assessments, critical incident management frameworks, and governance uplift initiatives.

The role requires a professional who is comfortable operating across multiple risk domains and who can synthesise complex information into clear, defensible and practical recommendations for senior stakeholders.

Key Areas of Experience

We are seeking candidates with exposure across several of the following domains:

  • Corporate security risk management
  • Critical infrastructure security and resilience
  • SOCI regulatory landscape and compliance frameworks
  • Maritime security (including familiarity with MTOFSA or port facility environments)
  • Protective security reviews and maturity assessments
  • Incident management and emergency preparedness
  • Corporate training delivery, particularly in security, risk or crisis management contexts

Prerequisites and Core CapabilitiesThe successful candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities:

  • Highly developed report writing skills, with the ability to produce structured, analytical and executive-ready documentation
  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to interpret qualitative and quantitative data and form well-reasoned recommendations
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • An ability to engage with senior stakeholders in a professional and commercially aware manner
  • A sound understanding of risk management principles, ideally aligned to ISO 31000
  • A pragmatic approach to problem solving within complex operational environments

Experience and Qualifications

This role would be well suited to a candidate with five or more years’ experience in a security, risk, law enforcement, defence, critical infrastructure, or related professional services environment.

Tertiary qualifications in security, risk management, criminology, law, emergency management or a related discipline will be viewed favourably.

What We Offer

Trafalgar provides exposure to high-quality, strategic engagements across Australia. The successful candidate will work closely with senior consultants and directors, gaining experience in complex advisory projects while contributing meaningfully to client outcomes.

Interstate travel will be required from time to time, depending on project commitments.

If you are seeking to move beyond purely operational security roles and into a structured consulting environment where analytical thinking, professional writing and strategic insight are valued, we encourage you to apply.
