As Trail Work Crew, you report to the Trackwork Supervisor (who reports to the Manager). Your role is generally to undertake safe and productive track work in remote bush locations in accordance with the job scope & requirements as directed by the Trackwork Supervisor. The work is mainly clearing vegetation.
Specifically, your duties and responsibilities are to:
- Understand, contribute to, and adhere to the safety procedures and documentation
- Align your work ethics and practices to the team’s modus operandi under the leadership of the Supervisor
- Undertake safe and productive trackwork to the prescribed job scope and relevant standards. Works include but are not limited to:
- Clearing logs and branches cut by chainsaw operator – tossing off the track corridor such that the cut ends can not be seen from the track
- Vegetation cutting/clearing with hand tools and power tools including chainsaw (if ticketed and competent), hedge trimmer, brushcutter.
- Minor earthworks with hand tools for benching and drainage.
- Walking efficiently up to an hour to/from the work site from the trail head each day. Or camping at the work front for typically up to 4 nights if the walk in is longer than 1hr.
- Ensuring all work sites are clean and tidy so nothing can blow away, and construction impact on surrounding vegetation and soils is minimised.
- Care and maintenance of all tools including daily pre-start checks, end of day cleaning/maintenance, and thorough end of shift clean for biosecurity ready for the next job.
- Assist the Supervisor with communications (via Garmin InReach and hand held radio), fire weather risk calculations, navigation via Avenza maps or Garmin app on your smart phone, or paper map and compass, and daily progress reporting including documentation of completed works via photo/video and measure up.
- Assist setting up communal camp, practice minimal impact camping, maintain high levels of hygiene in camp, and adherence to Leave No Trace principles
- Administer First Aid as required
- Safely drive your or company provided vehicles from time to time to the comfort of all your passengers
- Provide your own personal camping gear and clothing as per the Company and Employee provisions list in the appendix
- Other reasonable duties as requested
We have approximately 4 positions available for this local hire role.
Qualifications required
Mandatory:
· White Card - Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (CPCCWHS1001)
· HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
· HLTAID003 Provide first aid
Desirable:
· AHCMOM213 – Operate and maintain chainsaws (or higher qualification)
· Remote or Wilderness first aid
· Australian Drivers Licence – class C
