Senior Associate (Zato) - Auckland or Sydney

For the accountant who wants to be at the forefront of where the industry is heading. You're qualified. You're good at it. Now you want to put that training somewhere it compounds, on the platform, reshaping how firms across ANZ run compliance. Same skills, much bigger lever.

What Zato is

Agentic AI for accounting firms, built by trusted, successful operators who have processed over one million jobs and ledgers. We did not improve the old compliance model. We replaced it.

Accounting firms have run on manual processes, fragmented tools, and traditional outsourcing for decades. Zato ends that. Our platform centralises and automates the actual end-to-end work: questionnaires, GL scrutiny, workpapers, query management, and sign-off. One platform. Job done.

We are scaling fast across New Zealand and Australia, tens of thousands of ledgers are live on the platform, and we are becoming the category-defining system for how accounting firms deliver work.

The role

You own firms. That's the centre of gravity. You take an accounting firm from the first conversation through to running their jobs and firm on Zato, and you stay with them as they grow on it. You sell, you demo, you onboard, you train, you manage the accountants you bring on. Naturally, that becomes sales and partner success, and that's where most of your time starts.

But this is a new venture, not a fixed job description. The work bends to where the company needs you and where you're strongest. Some weeks, that's the product, shaping what we build. Some weeks it's business development, opening a new channel. Or research and analysis, making sense of the market and our own data. Or marketing, sharpening how we tell the story. You'll touch most of it, and over time, you find the one that's yours and go deep.

You'll know the product better than anyone in the room, and partners will trust you because you've done the work they do.

If you want a narrow lane and a fixed ladder, this isn't it. If you want to see a whole company before you pick your specialism, it is.

What you'll do

The core:

  • Own firms end-to-end. Pitch, demo, onboard, train, expand.
  • Sit with directors and partners and earn the room. Your experience does that, not a script.
  • Get firms to real output on real ledgers, fast.
  • Carry a number. Activated ledgers, not signatures.

And wherever you're sharpest:

  • Shape the product with what you learn on the ground.
  • Open new business development channels.
  • Run market research and analysis.
  • Sharpen how we tell the story.

Who you are

  • A CA, two to four years post-qualification, or a strong commercial operator who can technically-speaking hold their own with accountants.
  • Curious about functions. You want range now, depth later.
  • Ambitious. You want to build something that's yours.
  • High agency. You've owned a mess no one assigned you. You've probably built something on the side.
  • Good with people. Clients warm to you, partners trust you.
  • You want ownership and momentum, not hours for their own sake.
