Lindsay Australia's Major Expansion: New Fleet and Driving Jobs in North Queensland

Lindsay Australia Expands Supermarket Freight Services in North Queensland

Lindsay Australia has launched a staged rollout of supermarket freight services across North Queensland, introducing a new fleet and creating job opportunities for drivers and operational staff. The company has begun pick-up and delivery operations for Primary Connect from Brisbane to Mackay and Bowen, with Townsville services starting in November. Cairns will follow in February 2027, completing the supermarket distribution network. Services to BIG W stores across the region are scheduled to begin in July 2027 as the final phase.

New Fleet and Technology

Lindsay Australia has deployed a new fleet of 55 prime movers and skell trailers, combining Volvo FM13 and Mack Anthem prime movers with Freighter skell trailers. The equipment was selected to suit the freight task and North Queensland conditions. The fleet and operating sites are equipped with AI-enabled in-cab technology, mobile devices, sign-on-glass devices, and freight scanning systems to improve the speed, accuracy, and visibility of freight movements and delivery performance.

Job Opportunities and Training

The project will create jobs in Townsville, Mackay, Bowen, and Cairns, though the exact number of positions has not been specified. New recruits will undergo a two-week induction covering safety procedures, technology systems, and the sites they will service. Among the new hires is driver Nigel Emeray, who brings over 30 years of driving experience. He praised the induction and support from the team, saying, "As a driver, I can’t speak highly enough of the process or the leaders who have taken the time to work with us. I’m now looking forward to settling into my brand-new prime mover and enjoying the journey we’re on together as a team."

New Sites and Facilities

New sites are being established in Townsville and Cairns to support the secondary freight task. These facilities will also benefit Lindsay's linehaul operations servicing the region.

Executive Comments

Lindsay Australia executive director Rob Miller said the commencement followed months of planning, recruitment, and site preparation with Primary Connect. "Starting services for Primary Connect is an important milestone for Lindsay Australia and for regional Queensland. Our teams have worked closely with Primary Connect to make sure every region starts safely and reliably. We look forward to extending the network to Townsville and Cairns over the coming months." Miller added that the new teams have completed a comprehensive two-week induction and systems training program, and the company is "100 per cent ready for go-live." He also acknowledged the efforts of the SRT and Lindsay Transport teams in establishing the network.
