The Sessional Academic (SAS) is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and academic support aligned with AIA’s commitment to student success and professional relevance. This position supports the learning outcomes of SAS embedded units by delivering a range of teaching activities, providing strategic input on subject delivery, and maintaining academic quality through the use of industry-standard tool - SAS.
This role involves working collaboratively with academic and professional staff across AIA’s network to ensure students receive current, practical, and engaging learning experiences. This includes managing teaching materials within Canvas, engaging in assessment moderation, and ensuring alignment with the subject’s learning outcomes and broader program goals.
The position plays a critical role in maintaining the academic integrity and industry alignment of the curriculum and contributes to the student experience through accessible and effective academic delivery. While this is a sessional appointment, the role is integral to AIA’s academic standards and teaching excellence.
Responsibilities
- Deliver 3 hours per week of teaching over 12-week trimester (or 6 hours per week of teaching over a 6-week period for block mode)
- Facilitate a combination of lectures, workshops, and tutorials focused on SAS and data analytics.
- Support student learning by providing consultations, guidance, and feedback.
- Manage and maintain academic integrity, quality, and professional currency.
- Mark and moderate assessments in accordance with academic policies and standards.
- Collaborate with academic colleagues to ensure alignment with learning outcomes and consistent delivery across cohorts.
- Stay current with SAS tools, practices, and industry trends to ensure subject relevance.
- Engage in briefings and planning meetings as required by the Academic Dean, Programs Manager or teaching team.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
- Comply with all academic policies and procedures relevant to teaching and assessment at AIA.
Qualifications / Selection Criteria
- A PhD (or equivalent doctoral qualification) in Data Analytics, Statistics, Business Intelligence, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in SAS, including practical application of statistical analysis, data modelling, and reporting using SAS software.
- Proven experience in tertiary-level teaching, with the ability to deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and workshops in both face-to-face and online settings.
- Strong understanding of curriculum design and assessment, particularly in foundational analytics or statistics subjects.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain academic quality and integrity in subject delivery, including learning management systems such as Canvas.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
- A commitment to inclusive and student-centred learning, with a focus on supporting academic success and retention.
Qualifications / Selection Criteria (Desirable)
- Prior experience teaching or coordinating SAS embedded units or similar first-year analytics subjects.
- Familiarity with online teaching tools, such as MS Teams, and Canvas-based assessments.
- Experience contributing to subject development or review processes in higher education.
