The Arafmi Mental Health Carer Peak Team advocates for the needs of family, unpaid carers, and kin supporting individuals living with mental ill-health across Queensland (mental health carers). This is done through provision of evidence and policy guidance to decision-makers and fostering of relationships and partnerships with other key mental health sector organisations to advocate for system change.
As the Resource and Training Development Project Officer you will be responsible for co-designing and delivering high quality information resources and train-the-trainer training to strengthen alcohol and other drug (AOD) health literacy and service navigation for carers, families and kin.
This role is a full-time maximum-term role role to 30 June 2027. The ideal candidate will ideally be located in Greater Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba or the surrounding region.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Take a lead role in delivering project actions and outcomes, including client liaison, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, ensuring milestones and deliverables are achieved on time and within budget
- Review relevant literature and the service context in which the project is taking place
- Consult with service providers and families, carers and kin regarding training and support needs within an AOD context
- Collaborate with key services in the AOD sector to co-design and pilot: engaging, accessible and trauma informed AOD health literacy, navigation and capacity-building resources for families, carers and kin; and professional, informative and compliant carer engagement and referral resources for service providers
- Facilitate a reference group to provide input and feedback to the resources
- Develop and pilot a ‘train the trainer’ program to support uptake of the resources aligned to operational and contractual requirements and best practice adult learning theory
- Implement validation, monitoring and evaluation processes of training content to ensure best practices are captured and standardised delivery processes are used
- Develop learning materials for both face-to-face delivery and online learning based on business needs.
To be successful in this role you will posses the following:
Essential Experience
- An understanding of the needs and challenges faced by families, carers and who support someone experiencing mental ill health and/or alcohol or other drug use challenges.
- Demonstrated experience in consulting with stakeholders to understand information and capacity-building needs.
- Extensive design experience across components of creating resources and learning products
- Experience working with diverse educational technologies to design engaging, high-quality learning experiences
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate, liaise and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Independence and strong self-management and project organisation skills
- Comfortable with planning and prioritisation
- Capability and confidence to deliver projects within timelines.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a working with children check (Blue Card) and national police check.
- Lived experience or experience working with unpaid carers who support someone experiencing mental ill health and/or alcohol or other drug use challenges.
- A degree is not essential for this role as Arafmi recognises there are multiple barriers to people accessing formal education and that life and work experience can often offer as much value. However, the role will require a high level of skills and knowledge similar to those gained through a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.
