Join our Enforcement & Compliance team for a 12‑month role where you'll apply your AFSL expertise to investigations and enforcement in the financial advisers' space

  • Location – Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne
  • Salary between $97,401 - $112,446 (depending on experience) plus 15.4% superannuation
  • Temporary 12 month role

The team ASIC's Enforcement and Compliance Group (ECG) is responsible for compliance and enforcement across the financial services industry (excluding markets). Within ECG, the Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance function manages referrals, conducts preliminary inquiries into potential misconduct, and undertakes compliance activities and administrative actions. The Financial Advisers team focuses specifically on the financial advice sector, assessing adviser and licensee conduct and ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to safeguarding integrity and accountability in financial advice. The roleAs a Lawyer, You Will

  • Play a vital role in investigations into suspected misconduct, helping to uphold integrity in the financial advice sector.
  • Spot and assess technical, practical, and legal issues as they arise, ensuring every detail is considered.
  • Turn complex data and documentation into clear, compelling evidence that drives real change.
  • Work side-by-side with ASIC colleagues to compile evidence and deliver strong enforcement outcomes.
  • Help shape the future of our team by contributing fresh ideas and more efficient ways of working.
  • Dive into legal research, identify key legal issues, and provide practical advice throughout investigations.
  • Undertake administrative actions.

About You Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Laws, be admitted to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory as a solicitor or barrister, and possess (or be eligible for) a current practising certificate, enabling them to provide high‑quality legal advice. Ideally, they will also bring experience in the financial services sector, particularly with Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) obligations, to strengthen their ability to advise on complex regulatory and compliance matters. You Will Also Demonstrate

  • Strong analytic skills and ability exercising judgement.
  • demonstrated ability to effectively use digital investigative tools and technology.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • A flexible, proactive and engaged mindset.
  • The ability to identify legal issues, applying legislation and case law.
