We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join our expanding team in Canberra. This role sits at the core of a Federal Government program, providing critical network expertise to manage, design, and optimise gateway infrastructure. 🌐 About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration and operation of the Gateway network kit. This position demands a high level of technical expertise across data centre networking, firewall systems, VPN technologies, and cloud integration. You will not only manage and maintain existing systems but also help design and deploy advanced architectures that align with government security policies and best practices.
Your work will directly support a Federal Government agency at the frontline of service delivery. This agency provides essential digital platforms and services to millions of Australians, and your role will ensure that the backbone of these services – the network – is robust, secure, and future-ready.
✅ Essential Experience and Knowledge
Candidates must demonstrate:
1️⃣ At least five (5) years of proven experience in the design, management, and maintenance of internet gateways and/or large-scale data centre networking environments.
🌟 Desirable Experience
In addition to the essential criteria, candidates should be able to demonstrate skills and achievements in the following areas:
- 🔀 Layer 4-7 switching and proxy systems: Demonstrated experience in designing services utilising F5 and/or Blue Coat load balancing and proxy solutions.
- 🌉 Cisco technologies: Strong knowledge of Cisco ACI, routers, Nexus switches, and core routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
- 🔒 Firewall and IPS solutions: Hands-on expertise with Palo Alto firewalls and intrusion prevention solutions.
- 📡 VPN, DNS, and email systems: Experience in the design and implementation of VPN technologies, DNS (Infoblox), and email solutions.
- ☁️ Cloud integration: Demonstrated ability to design and integrate hybrid and public cloud services into existing infrastructure.
- 📑 Documentation and architecture: Proven experience in creating and maintaining system architecture and design documentation.
- 🛡️ Security policies and standards: Familiarity with Australian Government information security policies, the ASD Information Security Manual (ISM), and the Essential Eight.
