About The Team The team is responsible for the maintenance and management of sporting facilities across the city. Reporting to the Sportsfields Maintenance Lead and supervising a dedicated mowing crew, you will play a key role in managing essential functions including weekly sportsfield mowing, turf renovation projects, irrigation scheduling using ICC IRRInet, and the implementation of integrated pest management programs. Our team cultivates a collaborative, hands-on work environment that emphasises continuous improvement, professional growth, and the delivery of premium quality playing surfaces for community sports. These services are delivered in partnership with the respective asset custodians through service level agreements that define the roles, responsibilities, service and service level to be provided, with regular partnering meetings to monitor progress. About Your New Role Based at the Miami Depot, under the general direction of the Sportsfields Maintenance Lead, the successful candidate is to ensure that the maintenance of sportsfields and event spaces are organised on a daily basis to provide the agreed level of service, in an effective and efficient manner, and in accordance with Council’s aims and objectives. Responsibilities and duties of the role incumbent include, but are not limited to:
- To provide comprehensive sportsfield management services including renovation and irrigation programs and the development, implementation and monitoring of maintenance practices and programs for sportsfields in accordance with Council’s corporate plan.
- Provide advice and expertise to internal and external providers charged with the development of new playing surfaces and grassed park areas.
- Supervise subordinate staff by issuing directions and providing instructions and programming works for mowing of sportsfields including day labour staff and contractors.
- Select appropriate personnel, plant materials and procedures to maximise outcomes in terms of quality and productivity.
- Check and report on the performance of day staff and contractors engaged in operations.
- Conduct regular Toolbox meetings and site inspections to ensure Council’s WHS processes are being followed.
- Undertake visual inspections and site assessments of park areas and report defects.
- Support the development and establishment of strategic irrigation networks associated with sportsfields and manage requirements in regards to water restrictions and QLD recycled water usage guidelines.
We're Looking For People Who Have
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Well developed organisational capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a team
- Diploma in Turf Management / Horticulture or equivalent knowledge and experience
- General Construction Induction Card (White) (Mandatory)
- Current ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence (Mandatory)
- Computer skills including Outlook, MS Excel, Mapping, SAP / Hydrogen Work Orders and Notifications or similar programs
- Ability and Willingness to work weekends and after hours as required. (Perform duties as an On Call Officer)
- Knowledge of and experience with ICC Irrinet Irrigation Control Systems
- Current ACDC certificate (desirable)
- Contract Management experience (desirable)
- Experience with the evaluation of tenders (desirable)
