About the role

About Elephants Foot Group

Elephants Foot Group is a vertically integrated group of companies covering the whole waste lifecycle: consulting, waste chutes and equipment, manufacturing and installation, and ongoing service and maintenance.

With more than 50 years in the Australian waste and recycling industry, we work with building owners, strata and facility managers, developers, and businesses across a wide range of sectors.

That means our consultants don't just write recommendations. They're backed by in-house engineering, equipment and service teams who understand how waste systems work in practice.

About the role

Elephants Foot Consulting is seeking a Waste Auditor to join our Sydney-based team.

This is a varied role combining site-based waste auditing, data analysis, client engagement and report preparation. You will assess how waste and recycling are managed across residential, commercial and mixed-use sites, then turn your findings into practical, cost-effective improvements that clients can implement.

Australia has committed to an 80% average resource recovery rate and to halving organic waste sent to landfill by 2030. NSW is introducing requirements for food and garden organics separation, and building owners are increasingly benchmarking performance through tools such as NABERS Waste. The work you do will help clients understand and improve their waste performance and contribute to better resource recovery outcomes.

The role is hybrid, with your time split between field work at client sites around Sydney, our head office in Bankstown and working from home.

What you'll do

  • Conduct waste audits, bin room assessments and site inspections across Sydney
  • Evaluate existing waste and recycling systems, including chutes, bin rooms, collection arrangements and operational practices
  • Collect and analyse waste data, including volumes, contamination rates, recovery rates and costs
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve recycling and organics diversion, and lower costs
  • Identify practical and cost-effective improvements to existing waste management arrangements
  • Prepare clear, professional and concise audit reports and recommendations
  • Present findings and provide practical advice to clients, building managers, facilities teams and strata committees
  • Support clients with follow-up reviews, ongoing audits, compliance requirements and performance reporting
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Elephants Foot Group to deliver practical waste management solutions

About you

You are practical, analytical and comfortable working independently on site as well as collaboratively with clients and colleagues.

Previous experience in waste auditing would be highly regarded; however, we also welcome candidates with relevant experience across waste management, resource recovery, environmental consulting, sustainability, facilities management or related fields.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience or qualifications in waste management, environmental management, sustainability, resource recovery or a related field
  • A genuine interest in waste, recycling, resource recovery and the circular economy
  • Confidence conducting site inspections and working independently in the field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into practical recommendations
  • Clear written communication and report-writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence dealing with clients and site stakeholders
  • Strong organisation, time-management skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, with strong Excel skills highly regarded
  • A current Australian driver's licence and the ability to travel to client sites across Greater Sydney

Experience with NABERS Waste, including waste data collection, benchmarking, verification or ratings, would be highly regarded. Existing NABERS Waste Assessor accreditation would be an advantage but is not essential.

Familiarity with council waste management requirements, FOGO programs or similar waste and resource recovery initiatives would also be beneficial.

Relevant training will be provided to support you in the role.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary with weekly pay
  • Hybrid working across client sites, our Bankstown office and home
  • Structured training and professional development opportunities
  • Exposure to a diverse range of clients, buildings and industries
  • A varied role combining field work, analysis and client interaction
  • Support from an experienced waste consulting team and in-house technical experts
  • Opportunities for career development within the Elephants Foot Group
