Job Responsibilities
- Interpret Technical Documents: Study blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements, measurements, and fabrication methods.
- Prepare Materials: Select, clean, and prepare metal stock to ensure it meets project and safety standards.
- Cut Metal Components: Mark out and cut metal sections using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal-cutting machinery.
- Shape and Form Materials: Shape, bend, and form metal parts and pipes using hand tools, machines, and heat‑assisted methods such as heating and hammering.
- Assemble Components: Align and position metal parts using hand tools and measuring instruments to prepare for joining.
- Join Metal Sections: Weld, bolt, and rivet components using various industry‑standard techniques to create strong, precise joints.
- Quality Inspection: Examine welds and joints for accuracy, penetration, bead width, and overall quality, ensuring compliance with specifications.
- Finishing Work: Clean, grind, file, and chisel welds and components to achieve smooth finishes and prepare items for installation or additional fabrication.
The Metal Fabricator/Welder is responsible for interpreting technical drawings and specifications to accurately prepare, shape, and join metal components for a wide range of fabrication projects. This role requires strong practical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with various tools, machinery, and welding techniques.
