Senior Commercial Business Partner - Melbourne | Hybrid
This is a newly created opportunity for an experienced commercial finance professional to step into a highly visible role with genuine influence across the organisation.
As Senior Commercial Business Partner, you’ll work closely with senior leaders to understand the commercial dynamics, performance drivers and priorities within their area, challenge thinking and translate financial and operational information into practical actions that improve performance. You’ll combine strong financial capability with commercial judgement, analytical rigour and a consulting-style approach to work through complex issues and support better decision-making.
This is not a traditional reporting-focused finance role. You’ll use the numbers as the starting point - asking the right questions, diagnosing the real issue, evaluating options and then working with stakeholders to turn decisions into action.
The role spans commercial performance, strategic initiatives, business planning and operational improvement, giving you exposure to a broad range of organisational challenges and decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with senior leaders to improve revenue, margin, productivity and utilisation
- Analyse business performance to identify underlying drivers, risks and opportunities
- Translate financial and operational information into clear, practical recommendations
- Evaluate strategic initiatives, business cases and investment decisions
- Challenge assumptions and support better prioritisation and resource allocation
- Support budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling and performance analysis
- Develop executive-level reporting and commentary that explains what is happening in the business and why
- Lead commercial and business improvement initiatives from analysis through to implementation
- Use data, Power BI, automation and AI-enabled tools to improve insight and decision-making
- Build strong relationships across the organisation and influence stakeholders to turn decisions into action
About You
You are likely an experienced commercial finance or strategy professional who has developed the ability to think like a consultant while retaining deep financial and commercial capability.
You are naturally curious and comfortable working through ambiguity. Rather than accepting a problem or request at face value, you ask the right questions, test assumptions, bring structure to complex issues and help stakeholders work towards the best commercial outcome.
You’re equally comfortable in the detail and at the strategic level - able to interrogate financial information, build a commercial case and then sit with a senior leader and explain clearly what it means and what should happen next. Importantly, you are not someone who stops at analysis or recommendations. You have the confidence, judgement and drive to build stakeholder alignment and keep initiatives moving through to implementation.
You bring:
- 8+ years’ experience across commercial finance, business partnering, FP&A, strategy or corporate finance
- Strong commercial judgement, financial modelling and analytical capability
- Experience partnering with senior leaders and influencing business decisions
- The ability to translate complex financial and business information into clear recommendations
- Advanced stakeholder engagement, communication and consulting skills
- Confidence challenging assumptions and asking the questions needed to uncover the real business issue
- A proactive approach and the ability to take ownership of initiatives and drive them forward
- Experience with Power BI, data analytics and automation
- CA or CPA qualification
- Professional services experience, exposure to workforce productivity or utilisation, and experience supporting executive or Board reporting will be highly regarded
Professional services, management consulting or commercial advisory experience will be highly regarded, particularly where you have worked with senior stakeholders on business performance, organisational structure, workforce productivity, utilisation or strategic decision-making.
