You'll lead solution design from concept through delivery, working closely with customers and internal teams to ensure every outcome is secure, sustainable, and aligned to business goals. You'll become a trusted expert in Octave's products and services, using your technical depth and solution-focused mindset to guide architecture decisions, improve delivery outcomes, and uncover new opportunities for innovation. Just as importantly, you'll help customers connect strategy with technology—translating business needs into clear, actionable solutions that create lasting value. This is a highly collaborative role. You'll partner with customers, delivery teams, developers, and business stakeholders to design solutions that balance business priorities, technical excellence, and industry best practice. The selected candidate needs to be based in Melbourne. A National Police Clearance is required for this position. ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do
- Become a subject matter expert across Octave's products, services, and markets
- Design end-to-end solution architectures that address customer needs and business objectives
- Lead the selection, design, and specification of solution components, considering security, performance, scalability, integration, and user experience
- Create solution architecture artefacts using Octave's standards and frameworks
- Gather, analyse, and document business and technical requirements
- Translate customer challenges into practical, value-driven Octave solutions
- Present solution designs, demonstrations, and technical recommendations with clarity and confidence
- Review technical documentation to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with standards
- Provide high-level effort estimates to support bids, proposals, and opportunity assessments
- Support presales activities, including software demonstrations and customer engagements
- Identify emerging market trends, customer needs, and new solution opportunities
- Contribute to architecture standards, governance practices, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Participate in architecture peer reviews and technical decision-making forums
- Act as a strategic advisor to customers and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Partner with development teams to align solution designs with product capabilities and delivery approaches
- Support issue resolution across the software development lifecycle
- Ensure architectural principles, standards, and governance controls are applied consistently
- Balance technical excellence with commercial realities, proactively managing risks and dependencies
- Share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and strengthen capability across the business
Education / QualificationsWhat you'll bringQualifications & Experience
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Experience designing and delivering enterprise software solutions
- Proven background in solution architecture, business architecture, or related disciplines
- Experience in presales, including software demonstrations, RFIs, and RFP responses
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or equivalent
- Strong understanding of service-oriented and integration-based architectures
- Experience selling, architecting, and delivering cloud-based solutions
- Working knowledge of Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies; SAFe experience is advantageous
- Experience delivering complex enterprise projects in high-availability or mission-critical environments is highly regarded
- Exposure to Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Mobile Computing, or public safety technology solutions is an advantage
- Experience modelling business processes, requirements, and solution designs using industry-standard tools and techniques
Technical Skills
- Strong enterprise architecture and solution design capability
- Knowledge across cloud platforms, with Azure experience preferred
- Experience working with .NET, databases, APIs, integration technologies, and web-based applications
- Understanding of infrastructure concepts, including servers, storage, networking, firewalls, load balancers, and routing
- Ability to work across software, infrastructure, data, and integration domains
- Solid understanding of software development methodologies, testing practices, and delivery frameworks
- Technical knowledge of modern programming and computing technologies
Stakeholder & Communication Skills
- Able to connect business strategy with technical solutions
- Comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Skilled at simplifying complex ideas and building stakeholder confidence
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and consulting skills
- Excellent written communication, including solution documentation and recommendations
- Able to influence outcomes and build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups
- Experience working with global teams, vendors, and external partners
