Job Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services. Job Description

  • Lead the design and execution of the People strategy across Qantas Group People Function, enabling high performance and organisational effectiveness
  • Drive meaningful transformation and champion best practice People initiatives
  • Senior leadership opportunity focused on bringing critical strategic programs to life through close business collaboration

The aviation sector doesn’t stand still. Challenged to adapt and change, we’ve responded by reinventing our customer experience, broadening our business and achieving what was thought impossible. This allows us to stand strong as the Qantas Group. We are seeking an experienced Head of People for our Group People and Transformation portfolio. This role will sit on the Qantas Corporate People Leadership Team and report to the Executive Manager, People Corporate, strategically partnering with the Qantas Group People Team and leading transformation for the Chief People Office (CPO) and People Leadership Team (PLT). In This Dual‑purpose Role, You Will

  • Help shape and deliver the People strategy, driving-business outcomes, organisational effectiveness and a high‑performance culture
  • Champion business transformation, embedding the new HR Operating Model and modernising People process to improve the overall employee experience across the organisation.
  • Partner closely with the EM Corporate, CPO and PLT to deliver key strategic programs, including enterprise planning, budget leadership, Board Papers, and other cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Provide a central, integrated view of planning, delivery and execution across the People portfolio, supporting alignment, prioritisation and visibility across major programs of work.

This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the People function at Qantas — balancing strategic business partnership with enterprise‑wide transformation influence. As Head of People, you will bring proven experience navigating complex environments, building high‑performance cultures, and ensuring strong alignment between business objectives and People priorities What You’ll Bring To The Role

  • 12+ years’ experience and expert knowledge across the field of Human Resources with experience in a Senior Human Resources Leadership role.
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, or related fields.
  • Proven expertise in Human Resources business partnering, with a track record of formulating and executing strategies that deliver commercial value.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Experience as a trusted strategic advisor adept at building effective relationships with senior executive leadership teams, with a history of driving collaboration and using influence to shape the business direction.
  • Well versed in navigating matrix organisational structures, skilled at driving change and transformation.
  • Experience as a key member of a Senior Leadership team working with alignment and collaboratively driving initiatives within area of responsibility and more broadly across the leadership team
  • Collaborative and responsive leadership style, demonstrating ownership, accountability and a commitment to coaching and developing others.
