Exciting Job Opportunities Arise with New Potato Processing Plant in Dooen!

New Facility on the Horizon
A $30 million frozen potato production facility is set to be established at Dooen, creating significant job opportunities in the region. Farm Frites Australia is currently seeking planning and environmental approvals to build this state-of-the-art factory at the Wimmera Agriculture and Logistics Hub.
Strategic Location
After a nationwide search, the company has selected a 30-hectare site on Freight Terminal Road for its first Australian production facility. Previously, Farm Frites imported its products from The Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland.
Perfect Placement
According to Kieran Prestidge, the general manager of Farm Frites Australia, the Dooen site is the ‘perfect place’ for this investment. Despite not being potato growing country, it is strategically located in proximity to the best growing regions in Victoria, South Australia, and New South Wales. He emphasized the area’s proud agricultural history and excellent road and rail connections.
Job Creation
The development is expected to create 245 jobs for local workers, encompassing various roles including administration, management, maintenance, and sales. The construction phase alone is anticipated to generate 750 jobs, with construction expected to begin late this year or early 2026, and production slated to start in early 2027.
Facility Features
The facility will boast:
- Unloading and storage areas for potatoes
- A closed conveyor for transporting potatoes from storage to the factory
- A production line for processing raw potatoes into finished frozen products
- An internal road network for light and heavy vehicles
- Associated waste, water, and monitoring equipment
The Horsham Rural City Council has expressed support for the project and plans to amend the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal Master Plan to accommodate such manufacturing on the site.
