It was time, Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella said, to address the issue that has been “weighing heavily” on him – the technology giant’s latest round of job cuts.

“These decisions are among the most difficult we have to make,” Nadella wrote in a memo to staff late last week. “They affect people we’ve worked alongside, learned from, and shared countless moments with – our colleagues, teammates, and friends.”
