Australia's Hottest Job Opportunities

New data from job platform SEEK has revealed the most in-demand jobs and skills that Australian employers are desperately seeking right now. With thousands of positions needing to be filled, this is crucial information for anyone considering a career change or looking to advance in the current job market.

Top In-Demand Jobs and Their Salaries

Administration officers lead the pack as the most sought-after position with 17,946 job ads on SEEK. The best part? You don't necessarily need formal qualifications to enter this field, with average salaries ranging from $65,000 to $80,000 annually.

Following closely behind:

  • Support workers: 16,989 job ads
  • Educators: 16,768 job ads
  • Teachers: 12,369 job ads

The highest-paying role on the list belongs to electricians, commanding impressive salaries between $90,000 and $110,000 per year, with 6,471 job advertisements currently available.

Why Support Roles Are Booming

SEEK senior economist Blair Chapman explains that demand for support workers remains exceptionally high, particularly in disability and aged care sectors.

"Demand for health and care-related roles has grown steadily for many years as Australians become more health-conscious," Chapman noted. "As the large, ageing baby boomer generation demands more care, and as the NDIS has expanded."

The Skills Employers Really Want

When it comes to in-demand skills, SEEK's research uncovered that the top 10 skills employers are seeking all relate to communication, relationship-building, and team leadership.

SEEK's senior manager of customer insights, Kylie Pascoe, emphasized that employers are prioritizing 'human skills' or 'power skills' during this era when AI is reshaping the workplace.

"Businesses are looking for people who can communicate effectively, build strong relationships, and lead teams with empathy and clarity to do great work and make the most of new technology," Pascoe explained. "This means there's a real opportunity to stand out in the jobs market by prioritizing and developing these in-demand skills, whether through upskilling, training, or hands-on experience."
