About the Role
The Packaging Technologist supports the development and implementation of innovative, sustainable, and compliant packaging solutions. This role applies technical expertise to assist in packaging projects, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and ensures packaging meets performance, cost, and sustainability standards. This role is a 13- month fixed-term contract based at our Kingsgrove Innovation Centre.
Responsibilities
- Packaging Delivery
- Assist in the design and delivery of packaging sustainability programs and projects.
- Contribute to innovation in packaging formats, materials, and technologies to meet environmental and commercial goals.
- Support the development and implementation of packaging solutions aligned with circular economy principles.
- Technical Execution
- Provide guidance on packaging materials, design, and performance.
- Provide technical input on packaging materials, design, and performance.
- Participate in packaging trials, including coordination, analysis, and scale-up activities.
- Troubleshoot packaging-related issues across production and supply chains.
- Project Management
- Assist with New Product Development (NPD) and Value Optimisation (VO) projects from concept to execution.
- Work with cross-functional teams to help ensure successful project delivery.
- Maintain and update packaging standards, specifications, and compliance documentation.
- APCO Responsibility
- Support the development and implementation of packaging strategies that align with APCO’s sustainable packaging guidelines.
- Assist in preparing and submitting APCO Annual Reports, Action Plans, and performance metrics.
- Ensure accurate and consistent application of the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) across consumer packaging.
- Education & Advocacy
- Promoting awareness of APCO requirements internally and supporting teams integrating sustainability into packaging design and procurement.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identifying opportunities to improve packaging sustainability performance and reporting outcomes to APCO and internal leadership.
- Organisational Expectations
- Demonstrate APCHAMP’s Values within the work environment.
- Ensure high standards of safety and housekeeping in compliance with company policy and government regulations, supporting a ‘safe work’ culture.
- Perform other duties as directed by the immediate manager or senior management.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Packaging Technology, Engineering or related field.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of packaging materials, sustainability practices, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
- Technical skills in packaging materials, sustainable packaging design, testing & validation, and specification management.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with APCO compliance, ARL and product stewardship principles.
