Job Description

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

My client is a multi-generation Australian family business is looking for a Finance Manager to own its finance function. The business designs, imports and distributes clothing products - operating across wholesale, multi-site retail, concession, and a growing e-commerce channel.

This is a genuine opportunity to come in, establish a clean baseline, and become a trusted long-term partner to a close-knit leadership team.

The office is small - eight people in head office. The culture is warm, unpretentious, and relationship-driven. They're not looking for a corporate operator. They're looking for someone who is technically sharp and equally can work within a family business dynamic.

WHY THIS ROLE IS WORTH CONSIDERING

  • $110,000 – $130,000 + superannuation
  • Own private office
  • Parking on site
  • Friday work from home – four days in the office, Monday to Thursday
  • Broad, varied scope – wholesale, retail, importing, FX, multi-channel, NZ entity
  • Small team of 8 in head office - you're a genuine part of the business, not a number
  • Standalone role with full ownership of the finance function
  • Established brand with near a century of heritage and a strong national retail presence

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the co-directors, you'll manage the full finance function across a multi-entity, multi-channel importing business. There are no direct reports.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Cin7 Core to Xero reconciliation
  • Weekly debtor finance reporting and upload to the invoice funding facility
  • Local and overseas creditor management and payment runs
  • BAS preparation and lodgement
  • Payroll reconciliation and wages-related accounts
  • Monthly accruals, prepayments, and month-end close

Periodic responsibilities include:

  • Year-end preparation – journals, supporting schedules, and financial statements (AU and NZ)
  • NZ entity management
  • Inventory and landed cost accounting
  • FX contract management
  • Agent commissions and store rent reconciliation
  • Liaison with external accountants at year-end

You'll work closely with the operations lead on goods receipting and with the co-directors on financial performance. The role sits at the centre of the business - connecting operations, leadership, and external compliance.

WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience with an inventory management system in a product-based or wholesale business – Cin7, DEAR, AP21, Unleashed, or similar. Any platform. The concept is what counts. This is a non-negotiable.
  • Hands-on Xero proficiency – Cin7 feeds directly into Xero and this is where the business is managed from.
  • Background in wholesale, retail, or importing – solid understanding of COGS, landed costs, and multi-channel operations.
  • Exposure to debtor or invoice finance facilities.
  • Small business or family business background - you've worked in a close-knit environment, you understand the pace and the culture, and you thrive in it.
  • Strong communicator - you can translate numbers into plain language for a non-financial audience.
  • CA or CPA qualified - commercial experience and systems capability are equally as important.
