The client Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is looking to engage an enthusiastic Project Manager to join a skilled multi-disciplinary team within the Chief Technology Officer Branch.
The Project Manager’s role is to actively develop and coordinate the delivery of a major project assigned to the IT PMO. This will be achieved through working with the project team and key stakeholders across different business groups.
The role will contribute to the delivery of emerging technology projects, working collaboratively across technical and business teams to explore opportunities, develop solutions and support the successful transition of new capabilities into operational services. This includes supporting initiatives that may span cloud, infrastructure, endpoint management, automation, collaboration platforms, and other emerging technology domains.
There is a large focus on cultural fit within the Division overall and the ability to maintain open and honest communication and collaboration. The expectation is that this role is one that will embody this culture, support the positive maintenance of the culture within their specific team, and be an advocate
for the continued maintenance of that culture.

Key duties and responsibilities:
The role will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Lead the planning, delivery and governance of technology projects and initiatives, ensuring agreed scope, schedule, budget, quality and business outcomes are achieved.
- Develop and maintain project management artefacts including project plans, schedules, risk registers, stakeholder engagement plans, status reports and implementation plans.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams comprising business representatives, technical specialists, vendors and project resources to deliver project objectives and outcomes.
- Manage project risks, issues, dependencies and decisions, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are developed and escalated where required.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders across the AEC, providing clear communication on project progress, risks, achievements and emerging concerns.
- Support the identification, evaluation and delivery of emerging technology initiatives that improve organisational capability, efficiency, security and user experience. This may include cloud services, automation, collaboration platforms, infrastructure improvements and innovative technology solutions.
- Facilitate workshops, meetings and engagements to gather requirements, validate outcomes, resolve issues and support informed decision-making.
- Monitor project performance against agreed milestones, deliverables and benefits, reporting progress to governance forums and senior management as required.
- Ensure projects comply with AEC governance frameworks, security requirements, procurement obligations, risk management requirements and relevant legislation.
- Manage project budgets, contracts and vendor relationships, ensuring value for money and successful delivery of contracted outcomes.
- Support change management and transition activities to ensure new capabilities are effectively embedded into business-as-usual operations.
- Contribute to election readiness, event delivery and organisational priorities in accordance with the AEC Election Readiness Framework and CIOD operating model.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including business cases, project briefs, implementation plans, reporting packs and governance artefacts.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement while supporting the development of team capability and organisational maturity.
- Perform additional duties and assume responsibility for related functions as directed from time to time.
- Additional responsibilities during an Electoral Event - The role may require focus on adequate release management during an event.

Essential criteria:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in planning, managing, and executing IT projects with multiple tools and methodologies, refining requirements to ensure the relevant product and services are delivered within agreed time, cost and quality expectations;
- Exceptional technical knowledge/experience with technical project delivery.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate and sustain complex stakeholder relationships, including vendor management experience.
- Proven analytical abilities with the ability to assess information/data, and facilitate change, and translate business requirements to technology solutions;
- Exceptional experience in building mature high-performing teams, and working in a complex and dynamic environment that is focused on quality outcomes and service delivery;
- Proactive and extremely competent in delivering high-quality written communication autonomously.
- Willingness to work within a team that places a core emphasis on culture and is highly collaborative.
- Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameter.
Desirable criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge of IT frameworks, such as ITIL, Agile ways of working and DevOps.
