Role purpose

Cyient is seeking an experienced Front-End Engineering Lead to support the development and delivery of mining, minerals and industrial projects from concept through to execution readiness.

The role is suited to an engineer with experience in an EPCM, owner’s team or engineering consultancy environment who can shape projects before they move into detailed design and execution. The successful candidate will lead and coordinate concept development, range and option analysis, technical evaluations, value engineering, feasibility studies and project definition across multiple project stages.

Key responsibilities

Front-end project development

  • Lead engineering activities across concept, scoping, study and project-definition phases.
  • Develop technical roadmaps to mature projects through the study lifecycle.
  • Support clients in defining project objectives, requirements, constraints, risks and success criteria.
  • Facilitate alignment between operational, maintenance, project and engineering stakeholders.

Range and option analysis

  • Evaluate a range of technical and commercial development options.
  • Undertake option engineering, trade-off studies and value-engineering assessments.
  • Analyse project risks, opportunities, constraints and implementation strategies.
  • Develop clear recommendations balancing technical performance, capital and operating cost, schedule, operability, maintainability and sustainability.

Studies and feasibility

  • Lead and contribute to concept studies, scoping studies, order-of-magnitude studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies and front-end engineering design.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and ensure study assumptions, interfaces and deliverables are appropriately integrated.
  • Develop study scopes, execution plans, design criteria, technical reports and decision-support documentation.
  • Support cost estimating, scheduling and risk activities with fit-for-purpose engineering definition.

Multidisciplinary engineering leadership

  • Coordinate process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, structural and digital engineering disciplines.
  • Act as the technical integration point between client teams, subject-matter experts and delivery teams.
  • Support preparation of the Basis of Design, project definition documents, execution strategies and engineering deliverables.
  • Drive engineering quality, consistency and compliance with applicable Australian and client standards.

Client engagement and business support

  • Act as a trusted engineering adviser during project evaluation and development.
  • Lead and participate in workshops, site visits, technical reviews and stakeholder meetings.
  • Present study findings, engineering recommendations and project decisions to client stakeholders.
  • Support opportunity qualification, proposal development, scope definition and estimating where required.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, process, electrical, civil, mining or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10-14 years of Substantial engineering experience within mining, minerals processing, energy, infrastructure or heavy industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in an EPCM, owner’s engineer, engineering consultancy or project development environment.
  • Proven capability delivering front-end engineering assignments and technical studies.
  • Strong understanding of project development lifecycles, stage-gate processes and engineering maturity.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex technical interfaces.

Highly desirable

  • Experience leading pre-feasibility, feasibility and FEED programmes.
  • Experience with major mining, mineral processing, materials handling or non-process infrastructure projects.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer status, or eligibility to attain an equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Knowledge of Australian engineering standards, mining practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Commercial awareness and experience supporting project management, estimating or proposal development.
