ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR / SENIOR MANAGER – INSTITUTIONAL INTERNATIONAL

For almost 70 years, Export Finance Australia (EFA) has helped Australian businesses grow and succeed internationally with finance to secure opportunities, expand into new markets and diversify their presence. We support critical minerals and defence sectors, finance projects that strengthen economic resilience and advance net zero, and back Australian investment in sustainable infrastructure.

Due to increased growth we are seeking to appoint a Senior Manager or Associate Director to the Institutional team. This person will play a key origination, execution and analytical role in debt and potentially equity transactions. Based in Sydney, you will work closely with local and offshore teams and stakeholders to progress finance opportunities that align with EFA’s mandate across Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific.

The Institutional business works with government and customers who require complex structured financing arrangements including under key mandates for Critical Minerals, Defence, Indo-Pacific Infrastructure, Southeast Asia and our core export credit agency function.

YOUR NEW ROLE

Location: Sydney

Role Type: Full-time, Permanent

  • Support senior team members with originating, executing, structuring, and negotiating complex debt, and equity transactions.
  • Identify and assess the appropriateness of specific opportunities and then undertake and manage the necessary due diligence, risk mitigation and transaction structuring. You will also engage with internal and external counsel to ensure that appropriate legal documentation is successfully concluded and that financial close is achieved in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare investment/credit submissions, including board papers where required.
  • Foster strong networks and relationships to articulate EFA’s strategy as well as supporting customer relationships and relationships with banks and other partners, developed through the negotiation and execution of transactions.
  • Manage relationships and communication with key internal stakeholders including the Executive Credit, Legal and Portfolio Management.
  • Think strategically about Risk Management and work within EFA’s Risk Management Framework ensuring compliance with governance frameworks, policies and procedures and contribute to their continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that own activities comply with our mandate, Efic Act, Board delegations and with various legislative and international obligations relating to export credit agencies.
  • Contribute to developing strategies for business, sector, and product development within the context of our mandate, our Board approved risk appetite, the needs of our customers and the external environment.

ABOUT YOU

  • You will have at least 5-7 years’ experience in institutional banking ideally in project and structured finance with another financial institution with a background in transaction structuring, investment/credit analysis and familiarity with complex financing arrangements.
  • Strong debt financing and/or investing experience across a wide range of market segments, including institutional and corporate customers. There is also a preference for candidates with infrastructure, project and structured financing experience in both the private and government sectors.
  • Strong financial modelling, credit, valuation and analysis skills.
  • Superior stakeholder influencing and management skills, with the ability to deal effectively with customers, investors and financiers, key government contacts, consultants, and colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to forge and manage relationships with external customers, alliance partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in growth equity investments would be highly regarded
  • Degree qualified in business or another relevant discipline.
