Weekday evenings 6:30pm–11:30pm. Work is offered on an ad-hoc basis depending on client scheduling, so hours will vary week to week.
About the Role
Looking to gain hands-on experience in sustainability and resource recovery? We're looking for motivated, reliable Casual Waste Auditors to join our team across commercial, retail, and institutional sites.
This role is a great fit for students or recent graduates in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Building Performance, Waste Management, or a related field, a chance to build real industry experience while helping clients improve resource recovery and environmental performance. Note: No prior waste auditing experience will be required, as we will provide you with comprehensive training.
As a Waste Auditor, you'll assess how waste is being generated, separated, and disposed of, collect and record data, and help put together reports that make a genuine difference.
You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy practical work, aren't afraid to get your hands dirty, and are curious about how waste and recycling systems work.
What You'll Be Doing_Out on Site_
- Sort, segregate, and classify waste into the correct streams.
- Identify contamination and material composition within waste samples.
- Weigh, measure, and record findings, including photos.
- Set up and pack down equipment before and after each audit.
- Follow audit methodologies, safety procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Work well with the team and represent Gurru professionally on client sites.
Data & Reporting
- Enter and process data using Excel and our digital tools.
- Maintain accurate records and help validate audit information.
- Record audit findings accurately using Excel and digital tools. Assist with quality checking data and, where appropriate, contribute to waste audit reports.
Travel & Flexibility
- Attend audits at various client sites as required.
- Be available for occasional interstate travel.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and early starts when needed.
What You'll Need_Must-Haves_
- Basic Excel and Word skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Comfortable working in loading docks and waste rooms and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
Nice-to-Haves
- Studies in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Waste Management, Building Performance, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in waste management, recycling, cleaning, facilities, or environmental consulting.
- Background in data collection, auditing, or site-based work.
- Current driver's licence.
