The role in context

Australia’s mandatory sustainability reporting framework is now in place. Mandatory reporting required under the Corporations Act is applicable for relevant entities for financial years beginning on or after 1 January 2025 (or later).

Our national technical sustainability reporting team helps our engagement teams and clients understand their obligations to bring a high level of rigour and robustness to the mandatory reporting and assurance requirements. This is where you come in.

You will form part of the national technical sustainability reporting team, supporting the business and our clients in the application of sustainability reporting standards and other mandatory sustainability reporting regulatory requirements. You will work closely with Partners, Directors, Managers and other staff members from multiple parts of the business, helping to work through the new requirements and emerging technical sustainability reporting issues. You will be part of a wider national team supporting high quality sustainability and financial reporting and audit or assurance of this reporting.

A proportion of the role is carved out to enable you to work directly (as part of our world class ESG Advisory and Assurance group) with clients and teams in the delivery of sustainability reporting and assurance engagements. This will ensure you remain current and on the forefront of the practical challenges and needs of our clients and engagement teams which will further enhance your insights in how to technically support KPMG in this evolving area.

Your Opportunity

To work in a dynamic, fun and highly skilled team of professionals and support our growing sustainability reporting technical team we have an exciting opportunity for a senior manager to join our team, with a primary focus on leading the implementation of these requirements and the ongoing support of mandatory and voluntary sustainability reporting in Australia.

As a senior manager within our team you will have the opportunity to lead the communication, learning and understanding of the new mandatory sustainability reporting and assurance requirements in Australia of our engagement teams and clients, across a range of sectors. Your deep knowledge in greenhouse gas emissions measurement and reporting and scenario analysis will be critical in supporting teams assess client’s application of the sustainability reporting in these topics. This expertise will also be leveraged to grow the team’s knowledge and respond to technical queries from engagement teams across the business.

You will participate in regional and global subject matter focus groups and provide input into the development of global guidance and sharing of common and emerging issues on specific topics relating to sustainability reporting. You will identify opportunities for and develop sustainability reporting related guidance, training and thought leadership materials for both internal and external client consumption. You will be expected to play a pivotal role in the development, training, and mentoring of our diverse and growing team of professionals.

You will be expected to apply your technical knowledge and relationship-building expertise as you lead in this team, build trusted networks with our engagement teams and grow your personal knowledge in this dynamic and exciting field.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in the delivery of ESG Advisory and Assurance engagements for a specific portion of your role which will support your continued growth, exposure and currency in this area as it continues to evolve.

You will support quality and compliant regulatory sustainability reports, undertaking reviews of sustainability reports for compliance with disclosure and regulatory requirements and recommending good practices.

Your Experience

With an enthusiasm to deliver quality, you are technically minded, detail focused, interested in working with a broad range of industries. You will have:

  • Knowledge and experience of international and Australian sustainability frameworks and guidelines and standards, particularly Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) (measurement of GHG emissions) and understanding and experience in scenario analysis is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience of some or all of the following would be considered favourably: International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS), National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and Australian/International standards on Assurance Engagements (ISAE/ASAE 3000 and ISSA/ASSA 5000).
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills which are complemented by highly effective verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to exercise professional scepticism.
  • Strategic thinking in relation to developing sustainability-related reporting in specific sectors and/or jurisdictions.

Qualifications

We are looking for applicants that have Tertiary qualifications.
