About the Role
As the Financial Accountant, you will work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant and Group Financial Controller, assisting the team with financial reporting and compliance, reconciliation of financial information and the management of capital expenditure and property, plant and equipment.
Role ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Compliance
- Assist in development and preparation of budgets and business plans for the respective Group entities.
- Preparation of monthly financial statements and business reviews for presentation to the Executive committee.
- Prepare metrics and dashboards for tracking financial performance for the respective Group entities
- Prepare cashflow forecast on a monthly basis
- Prepare BAS and other ATO and ASIC compliance forms
- Preparation of annual financial statements and statutory filings
- Assist with preparation of tax returns and managing tax strategy for all group entities Internal controls
- Maintain a strong internal control environment, ensuring policies and procedures are administered and followed in accordance with established guidelines
- Partner with corporate, operational and commercial teams to implement and augment new controls with the continued growth of the Group’s platforms
- Preparation of statutory returns, including Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Electoral Commission QLD (ECQ), Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), Department of Environment and Science (DES) and others as relevant
Preparation, Review and Reconciliation of financial information
- Provide backup support to the Finance Officer in management of accounts payable inboxes ensuring the reliable flow of information to stakeholders
- Management of accounts receivable, corporate credit cards and accounts payable, including oversight and administration of purchase order and invoicing processes, aged receivables and payables and monitoring compliance with Group policies
- Assistance with the payroll function, collaborating with People and Culture representatives to manage onboarding, offboarding, payroll, taxes, superannuation and employee records
- Preparation and review of journal entries and month end accounts, including end of month and intercompany charges, in accordance with Group accounting and reporting policies
- Review account coding and allocation of supplier invoices and credit card transactions
- Preparation of end of month reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts
- Establish and process the posting of recurring journal entries and maintain schedules for the amortisation of prepayments and unearned revenue
Capital Expenditure (CapEx) & Property Plant and Equipment (PPE)
- Maintenance of individual company PPE registers and depreciation schedules
- Processing of purchase orders for CapEx requests and the addition of assets to the PPE registers and depreciation schedules
- Processing and posting monthly depreciation for depreciable PPE categories
- Ongoing review of depreciation rates and methods applied to individual entities PPE categories
- Processing and review of PPE disposals including calculation of accounting gain/(loss) on sale and tax depreciable asset balancing adjustments
About you
- 3-5 years (post qualification) Financial Accountant or equivalent experience
- Relevant bachelor's degree and postgraduate (CA or CPA) qualifications
- Strong finance and accounting background, with demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting practices, procedures and systems
- Project accounting experience and a background in infrastructure, construction, project finance and/or greenfield projects is desirable
- Highly developed analytical and numeracy skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proactive with a track record of improving processes
- Discreet and profession in handling confidential information
- Superior organisational and time management skills with the ability to anticipate and think ahead
- Strong Microsoft Office & accounting software experience, Wiise / MSFT dynamics desirable
- Power BI experience desirable
- Dynamic, comfortable with ambiguity and capable of juggling multiple priorities
