STEM Program Coordinator
Job Description
Posted on: June 28, 2026
- Make a difference – design and deliver educational career programs that inspire the next generation of high‑school girls into science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
- Grow your own STEM journey – work alongside a community of volunteer mentors who are leaders and experts of their fields.
- Flexible hours – while in‑person attendance is required for scheduled events (approx. 4hrs per fortnight), event planning can be completed at any time during the week.
About The Innovators’ Tea Party
The Innovators’ Tea Party is a Western Australian, federally registered charity dedicated to connecting high‑school girls with inspiring women working in STEM. Through free mentoring events, school programs and hands‑on career experiences, we help young people build confidence, discover diverse STEM pathways, and see themselves in future STEM careers.
Since 2016, we have delivered programs across metropolitan and regional WA, engaging thousands of students and collaborating with hundreds of volunteer mentors from industry, research and academia. Following a period of significant organisational growth - and the internal promotion of our current coordinator - we are excited to welcome a new STEM Program Coordinator to our team.
About the Role
The STEM Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering interactive STEM career events that bring women in STEM and high‑school students together. This role blends event management, volunteer coordination, youth engagement, public speaking, and program design.
This is a casual position averaging 5 – 10 hours per week across the year, with flexibility as workloads fluctuate.
The successful candidate will:
- Attend and lead events in person as the primary facilitator and volunteer coordinator (approx. one event every 2–3 weeks).
- Deliver events primarily during school hours, with occasional weeknight and weekend sessions (penalty rates apply).
- Travel to schools and venues across Perth, with occasional regional travel.
- Complete coordination and administrative work from home at times that suit their schedule.
- Be available to commence in mid‑July for a supported handover and transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead facilitator at events - including hosting, engaging students, and coordinating volunteer mentors.
- Coordinate volunteers in the lead‑up to events, including scheduling, onboarding, training and communication.
- Maintain and update event listings across the website, ticketing platforms and social media including marketing content and basic media design.
- Engage with schools, families, community groups and other stakeholders.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of program quality, including designing feedback tools, analysing results and implementing improvements.
- Collaborate with the Executive Committee to design new STEM programs aligned with the organisation’s strategic plan.
About You
You will thrive in this role if you are:
- A passionate advocate for gender equity in science and engineering.
- Someone who embodies our values: quality, inclusion, integrity and passion.
- Confident speaking to groups and leading interactive events.
- Highly organised, reliable and able to work independently.
- Skilled at building positive relationships with volunteers, students, families and schools.
- Comfortable learning new systems and using tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite and online event platforms.
- Experienced working with adolescents (desirable).
- Willing to obtain and maintain a valid Working with Children Check.
- Aged 18+ with access to your own computer, phone, internet and transport.
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience volunteering with similar organisations, or participating in STEM outreach programs.
- Current tertiary student or graduate in a STEM field or science communication.
